Ok I'll be the one to ask....

Is the bald eagle statue in these photos the same bald eagle that's in American architecture? I know i've seen it in America. Connection maybe?

Are you just getting it? Wow. And you're on ATS?

Very short answer: YES

I don't understand the point of yor post. What does the Berlin Olympics have to do with Obama? What exactly about these particular pictures reminds you of Obama?

Or are you just a Nazi groupy and posted these propaganda pictures from the Berlin Olympics because they give you some perverse gratification?

Good questions. This series of pictures portrays more than just the Olympics, they focus on Hitler and his use of spectacle on a massive scale as well as him depicted on a human scale (not to be confused with his humanity). It is important to recall that he was just that...human. To inflate his status is to forget that the atrocities of the Third Reich were concocted and carried out by humans and are repeatable.

Obama? I mention that because of a propensity by the Right...especially the Right...to speak of him in the same light as Hitler and the Nazis. It struck me that these photos put those comments in their proper perspective.

It ain't the same, and as I mentioned elsewhere, neither are the circumstances that created either Hitler or Obama. Find parallels if they support your ideogical inclinations...but to equate the two is...in my humble opinion...nonsense. Not to mention that it trivializes the Nazis.

Finally, no, I am by no means a Nazi groupie. Far from it. These photos are an historical document that attest to scale...for the most part, and they ought to serve as a cautionary note as well as a testament to ideology gone most horribly wrong.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Very well put. I am not the one who asked the questions- However, yes, this does clarify.

Not sure what it is about the color that makes such a difference. Perhaps because it illustrates the reality of this (i.e. it looks so much more "contemporary" rather than pictures from some remote past).

Whatever it is, these pictures somehow just scared the heck out of me.

At any rate, thank you very much for posting. The points you were attempting to illustrate are important and well taken.

It should scare you. It scared me when I was younger looking at those B/W photos.

Just think: the reality exists in few places today.

Very nice photos, but has anyone noticed that what is said to be the most horrible regime possibly ever is now encoded in our everyday language? And there are two sides to it: One, the Holocaust was horrible, inhumane, TOTALLY evil, and on such a level as that, one would think that calling Obama and others like Bush "Hitler" or calling someone a "Nazi" would be a serious non-criminal offense because it uses the same severity of the former to the latter. That is, how can you compare someone to Hitler when Hitler killed 11 million people? How can you even use those words to insult someone? It is like calling someone who killed a single bird a slaughterhouse.

I bring this to your attention because I find it startling how terms like Nazi and Hitler have entered our everyday language. People use this in language, and in protest, despite the strong differences between the one they are protesting against (Bush, Obama) and the one they are comparing that person to (Hitler).

Just thinking out loud here. It simply sound odd to say the Holocaust was horrible (and it was) then turn around and say someone is Hitler, despite the atrocities he did. It is almost like new swear words.

Right. It is not something to compare anybody to. Not even the "leader" of North Korea.

That is, how can you compare someone to Hitler when Hitler killed 11 million people?

That doesn't even compare to Stalin and others.

Perhaps it would be a good time to mention Godwin's Law.

Those images are chilling, purely chilling.

Not being huge on WWII, only what I remember from history class, all I could think of was how deceived those people were and the horrors that were going on in the camps.

I whole heartedly agree that we today throw those terms around very loosely. I just wonder if today's Nazi's are anywhere nearly as dangerous as the real thing. Let's hope not, no lets pray not.

too bad our country is turning into this really quick

masses of adulation, admiring sheep praising the leader - check

government wanting to take over car industry, health care industry , etc. - check

torture, abuse, and murder of thousands in the name of imposing our 'idea of democracy' in other countries - check

just a matter of time

What utter nonsense. You are exactly the kind of person that trivializes Hitler.
Your sky is falling knee jerk nonsense is not denying ignorance, it's EMBRACING IGNORANCE.
Yeah, we have a Democrat in office, so we are almost like the Nazis! Brilliant thinking there pal! Learn something of what you speak.

hey, you can trivialize socialism all you want, but socialism is socialism no matter what face you put on it.

We are entering socialism in America, and it's the same form of government they had. They were the national socialist party, and ours just has the fake label across it. But it's just the same.

Don't be blind.

They have been chilling ever since those pictures were first taken. Just because those pictures were B/W in the first place does not lessen the impact. Though I do admit that the colorized photos do bring them closer to home.

I remember first looking at those pictures when I was a teenager (yes long time ago
). I wrote a few reports.

What is more chilling is that it is a very serious possibility EVERY DAY.

I just wonder if today's Nazi's are anywhere nearly as dangerous as the real thing. Let's hope not, no lets pray not.

LOL. They are wimps compared to the true Nazis. They'd pee in their pants if they lived in Nazi Germany.

Umm Hitler called his party socialist on the premise that it brought in followers from the socialist ranks. he did that so often it isnt funny to so many areas, basically used a lie or twisted reality to gain support from as many corners as he could, untill he eventually turned on em once their use was up. Those who didn't get duped where stomped into oblivion.

Read the beginning of the book "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A history of Nazi germany" by William L. Shirer... its about 1200 pages long but a fine read, considering the guy was there as an American correspondent during the entire thing and he also had full access to the captured records after the war, and was at the Nuremberg(sp?) trials. Its amazing he even managed to get off the ground let alone become supreme warlord of Germany.

That book also explains alot about the German people at the time from the authors own observations, Americans share some of the traits but thankfully they have a few the Germans at that time really needed. And Hitler was fundamentally stupid, when you look at the evidence.. sure he was smart but he was ignorant where it would have mattered the most... and thankfully he was, since it was that, that ultimately was his downfall.

Obama aint Hitler, neither was Bush (although he was another kind of bad).

Great Photos though, that mass crowd one is just scary, I knew they where huge, but that is just beyond epic.

Wasnt the Eagle used first by the Romans in that way, heck Hitler modeled alot of his stuff on the Roman Empire visually.

Edit :- heh beh trying to find the part in the book where he mentions why they called their party the National Socialist Party, but trying to find it in 1200 pages is a little hard going
.

**Goes back to sifting through pages**

Edit2:- What OldDragger said bellow me

Hm looking through it again, I might have gotten that part of the book out of context, granted Hitler wasnt in anyway Socialist nor where the Nazi.

Oh please! I'm hardly blind, you are uninformed and gullible. A propagandist dream.
So "socialist" Sweden is the same as the Nazis? Great Britain? France?
You just plain don't know your "socialism from a hole in the ground!
Stop getting your info sppon fed from idiots like Sarah Palin.

I've never been a student of Nazi Germany, so these photos were
quite startling to me in two ways.

1. Everyone is EXACTLY the same shade of color on every photo. Weird!
2. Adolph Hitler is the shortest guy in every gathering. He must have
been an angry little man, cause I sure don't see any positive
qualities in his face that would have made him a natural leader,
like Obama, for instance.

Palin? what she got to do with anything other than keeping her kids from getting knocked up?

I'm a right wing extremist

I'm a veteran that supports my constitution which of course your media labels people like me a right wing extremist.

so there ya go.

Any politician trying to feed us socialism in the US should be tried for treason, and in extreme cases according to the constitution law on treason it does come with the death penalty.

These pics should serve as a reminder and a warning what we are becoming.

to echo some of the previous comments, the colour photos certainly bring home the power of spectacle and theatrics and their influence on the group mindset. Its interesting that with the benefit of hindsight it appears the Nazi movement (and all its associated atrocities) was probably the test ground for similar programs of social control that have appeared since the 1940's. Push some boundaries, see what can be achieved using such methods of control and manipulation, refine the process and repeat in varying political contexts.

I found some of the more candid photos of Hitler to be the most interesting. In many of these he appears a tired, deeply troubled man....unsurprising really but certainly came home to me looking at these photos. Fascinating, thanks for posting.

How quaint!
So it's YOUR Constitution, and MY media? And of course YOUR constitution
can only be interpreted in YOUR way right? LOL Life is simple to "extremists'.
So where in YOUR Constitution does "free market capitalism" get mentioned?
Where is "socialism" mentioned?
Sorry clown, Obama won the election, you just have to wait until he's out of office, and don't give me your "patriot' crap like YOU ARE the only one that loves his country.

Awesome and scary at the same time.

In Nazi germany, you got killed for thinking. Political opponents sent straight to a prison camp, amiright?
They couldn't go against the dictator unless more then half of nazi germany rebeled, a big enough number so that indivuduals couldn't have been tracked down, or quietly. A man holding a street sign declaring "SAVE THE JEWISH" would be killed a lot faster then a man who silently and slowly tunneled Jewish under his house. Germany had gone from starving to rich in one swift takeover. The people didn't want to go back to being poor, so they followed the leader.
