With winter just around the corner and who knows what coming at us politically and meteorologically, I thought this deserved a post.

Survival Shelters

Firemaking in Snow

Generally you will have to have an interest in survival blades, skills, outdoor gear, and maybe learning more about them to find these videos interesting. They intentionally show a lot of detail of the fire process (with lots of discussion thrown in) so as to completely teach and prove the Nutnfancy winter firemaking method.

How to light a fire with damp wood

Terminology and Fire Tricks

Find Food in winter

Rabbit Trapping/Snares

Winter Wild Edibles

And here's a nice mix of survival skills in winter. Foraging, shelter, water, fire, etc.

Les Stroud - Winter Survival

Sidenote:
Search youtube for "Survival", "Bushcraft", "wild edibles", "snares", "trapping", etc for more tips and tricks!

Read this thread I started called:
Whats coming this fall

Haven't gone thru em all yet... but so far there's been no sightings of Bear Gryls running around naked in any of them... so flag and star for you.

Useful info for us unfortunates who live where it snows
Thx.

Great thread. Very timely. Hope massive amounts of ppl see this. I'm in Arizona and have, just in case, bought the wife and I thermal underwear.
Hell, the way the weather has been lately we may need them.

I reccomend the rabbit snare video highly. The others waste way too time IMO. Good snare wires can be made from old electric guitar strings, but boil them first to get the human smell off. EVery guitar player I ever met throws his strings away.

Thanks Sancho
It's important for people who live in areas that experience winter, to understand how to survive without modern comforts. We rely too heavily on our modern trappings (electricity, fridge, stove, stores, etc) to provide us with our essentials for living.

Winter is a true test of survival

Wow great thread for those of us in the Great North. Another thing to make sure your proficent in is being able to use snowshoes, up north their use is going to become crucial for travel.

Shelter checklist:
-Trees
-Axe
-Cover
-Funky Music

Should add to make a pyramid shape because if you make a flat roof, snow will collect and get heavy and crush the unfortunate within. Survival 101.
