The Russian-crewed vessel is reported to have been spotted 400 nautical miles off one of the Cape Verde islands, an archipelago that lies west of Senegal.

“The Arctic Sea is some 400 nautical miles off one of the islands of Cape Verde, therefore outside its territorial waters,” a Cape Verde coastguard official told the AFP news agency.

Another link/source.......

A Russian-manned cargo ship that vanished last month in the Atlantic has reportedly been seen along the West African coast near Cape Verde.

The Russian state news agency ITAR-TASS and the German paper Financial Times Deutschland reported that the ship was spotted near the islands of Cape Verde, a former Portuguese colony off the coast of West Africa. ITAR-Tass, reporting from London, cited unidentified officials at Nato; the newspaper cited two sources but did not identify them.

Maybe the secret shipment was that NUKE that was lost by our government? Here is the scenario, we are so concerned about the crew that we escort her directly to a Miami port. There is no checking of the contents of the ship because it's an emergency recovery, and then boom. Hopefully, they search the hell out of the ship before allowing it to dock at any port.

Just learned of this story...

These are the ones that get buried, but they are some of the most important ones because of it. It was obviously transporting something of interest to many factions with access to high levels of intelligence.

Somehow I think they won't find much at all - maybe a very traumatised crew probably minus the few that actually knew the real cargo on the ship - they are either in on it or were executed and thrown over board...

Whatever was so important would of been removed to another ship - the raiding crew were in quite a small boat weren't they? I suppose 3 or 4 cruise missiles would be no problem - but that's about it... Or if they were after the timber
they could of grabbed a few hundred dollers worth - defiantly worth the hassle...

But the way the ship went off radar for so long gave it plenty of opportunity to RV with another ship - I don;t know how easy it would be to transfer that much wood while at sea... I doubt they could of gone to a dock without being noticed. They weren't after wood!

If I wanted to smuggle, say, a nuclear device, there is NO way I'd let anyone involved with the ship know. Least of all the crew. I'd have the ship brought to a port for repairs, place the 'package', and then go pick-up my cover shipment. I'd then have the ship 'intercepted', temporarily disable the crew and communications, off-load the 'package', and then go on my way. Oh wait... that's what happened.

Perhaps the Swiss police detected something when they boarded, communicated the same to another party (US or Britain perhaps), they then planned an intercept and removed the package. Wonder if we'll ever know.

funny that intelligence reports suggested that nuclear material was onboard but denied by the transportation company.

I know it's a bit late to ask this, but how the hell does a vessel of that size vanish without a trace, nobody seems to know where it's at, and then all of a sudden reappears like nothing happened? Though it's not factual evidence, it's still obvious that somebody knew where that ship was, and probably knew it was going to vanish... I saw a post that stated they detected something on the ship when they boarded it but I saw nothing that stated what it was.. then again I tend to scroll through.. either way, does anybody know what they detected, or maybe found?
