Shuttle Launch NO-GO due to WEATHER - 24 Hour Delay

This still was just taken from their weather service. Looks like the same kind of cloud cover as yesterday.... I think that we might have another delay for launch of space shuttle...

Yeah its not looking to promising, it must be very frustrating for them.
I wish NASA would leave the stream running so we can watch the storm too, it would be interesting to see if the lightning hits the pad.

I really have a dilema, do I stay up and watch it, get five hours sleep, risking a scrubbed launch- or do I stay up and be tired for work?

I feel for you, its hard because they are preparing as normal for go and last night it was so close before it was cancelled. It would be nice to get word of it a bit earlier tonight.

It would suck being strapped in to that chair and having to go to the can diapers or no that would suck. I'd be getting a little frustrated with the failed attempts by now but maybe the prospect of shooting in to outer space would keep me coming back for another try.

T-38 reconn should tell them weather; give it 1 hour.

p.s. some great on-board footage of them pushing buttons 'n stuff

This is from the thunderstorm From a few days ago (July 10). There was a lightning strike directly on the lightning mast...but the mast did its job (as a lightning rod) and the electricity from the strike was dissipated away from the launch vehicle. The was no damage done.

There is a system of lightning rods and wires at the launchpad that is specifically designed to attract the lightning to the rods and provide a path for the electricity to move away from sensitive parts of the launch area.

And dont forget some good footage of them waiting in the hallway.

edit/ I saw that on one of the news services, thats what i mean it would be nice if there was another cam we can watch if a storm comes through.

Yeah I know, although I was bitterly disappointed last night, it was bloody awsome, it was like watching Apollo 13 but in real life, I was going to start a new thread for today's launch, I may just ask a mod to change the title of this one, so that people will find the NASA feed.

That video is pretty cool. I think it was a clip from that i saw.

So is there another cam we can watch or is that in house.
I suppose i could go have a look.
Hopefully it will launch anyway.

I've got a feeling it is going to blow up shortly after launch, at which point the space shuttle will be officially retired and new technology will emerge.

They just annonced lightning 10 nautical miles from launch pad, but they don't expect to have problems within the launch window...

Looks like it's another no-go.

My god, I'd like to go up to the head honcho and slap him!

Why not just forget the whole thing until a clear sunny day.

I'd love to know how much a scrubbed launch costs!
