I already work every third day 'free' for the government. How bout they pull their heads out of their collective rectal sphere of influences and start making some good decisions with what we are ALREADY giving them for free? Sounds like you care and that's a good thing. Maybe if we all think a bunch of happy thoughts they will turn around and actually give a rats hookie about US for a change. Nah. Prolly not. Reckon they would just want more.

No. It would save a little money on employment costs for corporations and businesses, but the CEO's and business owners likely wouldn't transfer that money to the government. Even if they did, it would all be spent on crap, and then they would spend even more money on crap, digging the hole even deeper.

The government takes over 100 days a year in people's pay. Why would you want to give it another day? Give your 1 days pay to charity or an organization that will actually do some good with it. If you give the goverment one day then it will want to take two.

So you want to add one day to the 5 months a year we work to pay for Fed Income Tax, SS, Medicare, State Tax, Sales Tax, County Tax, City Tax, Property Tax, Smoking Tax, Alchohol Tax, Communications Tax, Cable TV Tax, Taxes they make off of legalized gambling like the lottery and the casinos?

I guess one more day wouldnt hurt

Alright well, let me give you some perspective on how we actually work for free everyday.

In the 70's a carton of milk was 1 dollar (I'm rounding here) and minimum wage was 4$ an hour.

Today, a carton of milk is 4 dollars and minimum wage is 8 dollars an hour. You know what that means?

We are worth 50% less, than we were worth int he 70's, but the cost of living has continue to rise.

By the math institute above, we should make 4 times the ammount we make now, with prices the way they are.

I work for free already friend. 30 cents of every dollar goes to the government, there is no need to help them, since they aren't trying to help us.

What the world really needs to do, is not go to work for free, it's to STOP working all together. If everybody in the US just didn't show up for work one day, the Government would completely loose it and hand power back to the people.

Simple solution, hardest to implement, but it would work.

What would it help to work for free?
The government has no shortage of money....they're giving it away right now to the billions!

You have the right idea young man. But if the government stopped SPENDING for one day, it would probably make a larger difference.

I always thought that my ex-wife could turn Bill Gates into a pauper the way that she spends money, but Obama is making her look like an amateur!!! Obama has no fiscal restraint whatsoever.

BTW, here in California in 1976, the minimum wage was $2.35 an hour. Gas doubled almost over night to $1.00 a gallon!!!

What would stimulate the economy more than anything is the gov giving us one free day a week..If we had got the bail out moneys the economy I feel would have straightend it self out..All the bail outs did was put moneys in the savings accounts of the big wigs for when the economy finaly craps the bed..

I give you kudo's for even thinking of the economy at a young age..when I was 19 the only economy I was interested in was having enough of it for gas and pizza to schmooz the girlys..

Not many people will admit that, they are so set in their ways that facts and events could be blowing up in their faces and they still won't listen for fear their delusions will be shattered.

Keep doing some research about how much the government takes from us (and who they give it to). Its not just 100 work days out of the year, just about every consumer item has its price jacked up by taxes passed along to us by the businesses that have to pay their taxes too. Then the government prints money to supplement the taxation (which will never be enough for budgets) which further erodes the money we have to work and sweat for.

Giving the government free labor won't work, but what would is this.

1. End the current income tax system.

2. End business tax on businesses earning 50 mil or less.

3. Institute a 5% national sales tax.

4. Institute a 5% flat individual income tax across the board.

This would be a start.

I agree with the posts above, about working 5 months until tax day all our salary goes to the government.

Odd thing is, is that they can print as much as they'd like without working for it themselves. They just write a check, no balance in the account needed. So why do they need our tax money in the first place? To keep us in our place? To keep us miserable?

Yes,

Flat tax and national sales tax is the way to go.... but one thing to add,

IMPORT TAX !

We cannot compete against slave labor, no environmental laws (yes, that cost US companies a fortune to comply), Benefits, CARBON Freeking taxes, etc.)

An adjusted import tax on anything that is imported would be another helpful start.... as there will be no jobs if everything can be made, serviced, diagnosed, performed at a fraction of the price overseas because their laws / environmental practices / wages / cost of living are a fraction of what we have here..... 2 options, either we drop down to their level thus giving everything away that has been created in the last 200 years or enforce a "FAIR" taxation to level the playing field. This is not protectionism, this is survival of our way of life. I do not want my Grandchildren on a "save the children" commercial because we were Freeking Idiots!

A national sales tax on its own is regressive. The poor will incur most of the costs when buy necessities. What needs to happen along with a national sales tax is some kind of flat rebate program for every tax payer to off set the burden of buying food and energy to survive.

This goes as well with a flat tax. While it seems fair, it really is a regressive tax as well. A rebate program needs to be implemented in order to offset the regressive aspect of a flat tax.

Business should not have to pay taxes at all. Currently business does not pay taxes anyways, they just pass all the costs down to the consumer or move out of the country. Basically the consumer pays for the business taxes. If business was not made to pay any taxes, all the costs of taxation including the costs to pay the taxes (accountants and lawyers) will be thrown out the window and the savings would be passed on to the consumer level. This is what would help the poor in the country the most. Business would have vast incentive to produce as locally as possible to its consumer base, which would promote regional job growth as well as the savings passed to the consumers. I guess I kinda can see why the government likes taxing businesses, nothing like a stealth tax on us while all the suckers believe the "rich" corporations are getting hosed.

I agree with the 5% sales and 5% income tax. There should be no exceptions on a flat tax. Everyone should pay their fair share. I understand that businesses will try to increase prices to compensate for taxation - however keep in mind because they will always pay a set % their prices will level off. They will never pay more or less than the set % everyone else does. Also keep in mind that this environment will be strongly favorable to new businesses and entrepreneurship (sorry if I mispelled that). New businesess wont pay extra taxes, or less taxes than major competitors, which will allow increased competition, and competitive pricing on goods.

None of these tax ideas will work unless NAFTA is reformed or repealed.

Until then, none of this matters. Businesses will continue to leave the country when they can get cheaper labor. Import Tariffs NEED TO BE RAISED PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get it in your skulls people. Why doesn't either party talk about NAFTA? This country didn't start losing it's best jobs till after it was put into law. For cripes sakes guys!

Even if we worked free for 1 day each week and gave it to the government, the government would find a way to squander it. We would be deep in the red in no time and the situation would look much like it does now.
