OK, just what the hail is this thing!?!

I like how the illustration makes it look a lot more "airplane-y" than the photo would suggest. I also think it's interesting how airbrushed the photo seems to be. I wonder if the original might look a lot more like a couple of sea birds flying close together. It would be nice to have the original negative, but I would guess that's long gone by now.

I just stumbled across this, which sure looks a lot like our mystery object:




Sunfish

Although it might be conceivable for one of these to shoot upwards out of the ocean, I can't imagine it flying through the air like the photographer described. Sure does look similar, though.

simple picture of 2 newspaper clippings. one placed over the other. the outline of the orca and its
calf cut out and placed over something that can't be i.d..ed thats all it is. and i'm no skeptic.
