I believe the explanation is that they use some form of 'warp-drive' engines, sort of like in star trek. Instead of moving the ship, you move the space around it, thus you never have to accelerate the ship to a level where inertia becomes a problem. It also allows you to exceed the speed of light without breaking the laws of physics, and lets you travel at high speeds without experiencing time-dilation.

Either that or they use some form of gravitational field that keeps all atoms in the ship centered relative to the ship's acceleration and direction of force.

Interesting ideas GTG. My thought has come to include in simple terms
( I can (almost) understand), part of their high-speed acceleration, incredible right angle turns, etc.. might be due to vehicle & occupants being reduced/transformed from a platform to atoms? I know it may seem a bit nuts, I used to think so too.
