What artists / songs / albums think best represent / support causes that are close to your heart?

What musicians have made a real difference about something you strongly believe in?

Anti-war music? Anti-religion music? Pro-religion music? Whatever.

For me it is the Australian band Cog, who, in their own words, have 'music in their message'.

They list their myspace friends as Alex Jones, Loose Change and The Australian UFO Centre.

Their entire 2nd album was focused on exposing the NWO in America and the problems with the official 9/11 story.

Most 'fringe' bands such as this would not get airtime, let alone record deals, but Cog's first single off the 2nd album Sharing Space, What If, debuted at 21 on the charts.

Their latest single, Are You Interested?, is also now a hit. I just hope many that come to like their music understand the meaning behind the lyrics.

Here are some sample lyrics off the album:

Caught In the thick of it
Eye in the pyramid
Force fed and sick of it

Yes, they're making lists of people interested in this
And they're scanning all their data bases, hunting terrorists
Yes they're making lists of people interested in this
And anyone who speaks their mind is labelled anarchist

Bald heads in parliament with ritual and covenant
Keep telling us we've got to read the warning signs
Barcodes and fingerprints, obedience identikit
It's time to read the warning signs

Sun gods and obelisks in blood lines from Sirius
As doctor puts a spin on all the warning signs
Corporation counterfeit, we're strip searched and desperate
It's time to read the warning..

Cog - Are You Interested?

Bridges are burning but faces are looking away
People are yearning for someone to show them the way
Tables keep turning and time is the price that we'll pay
Fast cars and freedom, as long as you learn to obey
Fear is the virus they use to divide us
Hoping we'll all just pretend that there's no other way

Ordered by a god above
To murder in the name of love
And they'll always claim that truth is on their side
Holding keys to a paradise
All their noise is a lullaby
For years they have ruled over you and I

Cog - No Other Way

As I watched those buildings fall
Saw the writing on the wall
In the underground the gothics spoke of triggers for a war
There'd been a leak and not a plan
A new world order, understand?
And I stood there feeling like someone had planned it years before
Years before

Lusitania had to go
Stage was set to start the show
And I heard the sound of Alice chasing rabbits down a hole
Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam
Yes Franklin knew about Japan
And they're laughing as they use us all to build their Babylon

Cog - Problem, Reaction, Solution

You can check their music out on their myspace page, have a listen. (No i'm not on their PR team

There's two tracks by an English band called Indians in Moscow which for me say it all, especially in these times:

HELL'S HARVEST

As you sow so shall I reap
It's just a question of time
As the scales of justice creak
Someone must pay for your crime

Who's gonna reap Hell's harvest
Long after you are dead and gone?
Your kids playing in your garbage
The glory poison lingers on

As you take what is not yours
You think you're so quick and clever
As you start another war
Your children hate you forever

Who's gonna reap Hell's harvest
Long after you are dead and gone?
Your kids playing in your garbage
The cunning ego lingers on

Leave us alone
Leave us alone
Leave us alone
The unborn cry

and WORLD IN DISGUISE

Block my ears hide my eyes
Comfort me with tabloid lies
I will pay to patronise a
World in disguise

Safe inside seductive pages
Tell it like the middle ages
Only show the pretty bits
World in disguise

Not in front of the children now
Keep the truth from me somehow
Pantomime sacred cow
World in disguise

Welcome to the New World Order
Leave your conscience at the border
Now everybody can afford a
World in disguise.

Show me what I want to see
Tell me that I'm proud and free
Free from responsibility
World in disguise

I believe in Jesus my God,
Father Christmas and my iPod
Dreams like these will always please
A World In Disguise

Don't wake me
Don't make me
Leave me to sleep my life away

Welcome to the New World Order
Leave your conscience at the border
Now everybody can afford a
World in disguise.

Block my ears, hide my eyes
Lead me through cardboard skies

World in Disguise

Bruce Hornsby: The way it is

Standin' in line marking time
Waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job
The man in the silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old lady's eyes
Just for fun he says, 'Get a job'

That's just the way it is
Some things'll never change
That's just the way it is
Ha, but don't you believe them

Said, 'Hey little boy you can't go
Where the others go
Cause you don't look like they do'
Said, 'Hey, old man how can you stand
To think that way
Did you really think about it
Before you made the rules?'
He said, 'Son

That's just the way it is
Some things'll never change
That's just the way it is'
Ha, but don't you believe them

Ooo, yeah (instrumental)

(That's just the way it is)
(That's just the way it is)

Well, they passed a law in '64
To give those who ain't got, a little more
But it only goes so far
'Cause the law don't change another's mind
When all it sees at the hiring time
Is the line on the color bar
But who knows

That's just the way it is
Some things'll never change (right)
That's just the way it is
That's just they way it is, it is, when you're waiting.

well, these guys have always had a message, which is part of what makes them one of the best bands to evolve from the '80s "New Wave" set. here's a sampling:

I have always liked the band Disturbed's message.
A remake but in perfectly in line with their views:
Land of Confusion

"Land Of Confusion"

[Originally by Genesis]

I must have dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street

Now, did you read the news today?
They say the danger has gone away
But I can see the fire's still alight
They're burning into the night

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in

Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, these men of power
Are losing control by the hour

This is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in

I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight
So long ago

I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go round
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

Now, this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to

Since I ran out of Space:

Liberate by Disturbed

"Liberate"

Bold mother#er don't you limit your mind

Liberate your mind
You mother#er, you're so narrow-minded
So narrow-minded
So liberate your mind
Now mother#er, will you liberate your mind
Liberate your mind
You mother#er, you're so narrow-minded
So narrow-minded
So liberate your mind
Now mother#er, will you liberate your mind
This time

Bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
Can't you see that the message
Have fallen behind
All the hate in your heart
Will be leaving you blind
So bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
Now bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
Can't you see that the message
Have fallen behind
All the hate in your heart
Will be leaving you blind
So bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
This time

Waiting, for your modern messiah
To take away all the hatred
That darkens the light in your eye
Still awaiting, I

Liberate your mind
You mother#er, you're so narrow-minded
So narrow-minded
So liberate your mind
Now mother#er, will you liberate your mind
Liberate your mind
You mother#er, you're so narrow-minded
So narrow-minded
So liberate your mind
Now mother#er, will you liberate your mind
This time

Bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
Can't you see that the message
Have fallen behind
All the hate in your heart
Will be leaving you blind
So bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
Now bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
Can't you see that the message
Have fallen behind
All the hate in your heart
Will be leaving you blind
So bold mother#er
Don't you limit your mind
This time

Waiting, for your modern messiah
To take away all the hatred
That darkens the light in your eye
Still awaiting, I

"Out of Zion shall come forth a law
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem
Nation shall not raise sword against nation
And they shall not learn war anymore
For the mouth of the Lord hath spoken"

Waiting, for your modern messiah
To take away all the hatred
That darkens the light in your eye
How long will we be
Waiting, for your modern messiah
To take away all the hatred
That darkens the light in your eye
Still awaiting, I

Still awaiting, I

Disturbed's Ode to Bush

Deify

[Woman's Voice:] That's what I believe got him re-elected, is the people knew that you could believe what he says.
[George Bush:] Our Country is strong, we go forward to defend freedom, and all that is good and just in our world.

All my devotion betrayed
I am no longer afraid
I was too blinded to see
How much you've stolen from me

You want to know why I feel so horrified?
I've let my innocence die
You want to know why I can't be pacified?
You made me bury something
I won't be sleeping tonight

I only wanted a blessing made
Now I've been labeled a renegade
It seems so clear now what I must do
You're no immortal
I won't let them
Deify you
They view you as the new messiah
Deify you
Renew belief in some demented man

You want to know why it seems the passion's died?
We've all been living this lie
You want to know why my will's been fortified?
You've made me hunger again
Good luck sleeping tonight

I only wanted a blessing made
Now I've been labeled a renegade
It seems so clear now what I must do
You're no immortal
I won't let them
Deify you
They view you as the new messiah
Deify you
Renew belief in some demented man

All my devotion betrayed
I am no longer afraid
I was too blinded to see
How much you've stolen from me

Deify you
They view you as the new messiah
Deify you
Renew belief in some demented man

I saw Disturbed perform all those songs live in October

They are amazing live. If it is possible, their sound is bigger, stronger and more powerful on stage than on the CD.

Their lyrics are sometimes controversial, but many of their songs, the ones you list included, have a strong message.

Shame that most people I know view them as just another 'metalcore moneymaker'.
