Israel had plans to bomb Iran N-plants: Report

US President George Bush rejected a secret Israeli request last year for specialised bunker-busting bombs it wanted for an attack on Iran's main nuclear complex and told them that he had authorised new covert action intended to sabotage Iran's suspected effort to develop nuclear weapons, a media report said on Saturday.

White House officials, the New York Times said, never conclusively determined whether Israel had decided to go ahead with the strike before the US protested, or whether Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was trying to goad the White House into more decisive action before Bush left office.

Looks like Israel has a long term plan to establish itself as a power to recon with. Was it a real plan or was it just a 'I'am on your side' tactic in favour of the US?Israel has been trying to prove a point or two with the prolonged offensive at the Gaza Strip where more than 800 people have been killed so far. Attacking Iran looks like a long shot for the Israeli forces.

CNN is also reporting this on front page - U.S. rejected Israeli plea to attack Iran.

To be honest I don't know what to make of this... something smells fishy though.

That's because you have ignorant, pre concieved opinions. Many people around have been boastfully proclaiming that Bush was hell bent on attacking Iran despite the fact that they didn't have one iota of evidence to back up their bigoted claims.

I'm not attacking you but I am laying out the reality of it for you.

This is interesting timing for this report, given the Gaza fiasco Israel now finds itself in, with weakening global support for its sorry little self.

What's even more amazing is that the "conspiracy" stuff like Israel using white phosphorous munitions in Gaza and these secret requests to get Iran, are all over the mainstream media, in the same day.

It can't be said that uncle George was doing a righteous thing by not giving Israel the green light to attack Iran - Iran would've launched missiles against US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the quagmire that the US has itself in now would be amplified several fold.

2008 was a bad year - financial crisis and near/possible collapse of the US economy, the Russians getting boisterous in the Caucuses...

Imagine an even more inflamed Middle East.

I might not know what this political move is aimed at accomplishing, but it remains -- only a fool would believe that Bush and his administration have the best of intentions in mind. You accusing me of having "ignorant pre concieved opinions" is quite humorous after seeing your signature.
