Obama camp 'prepared to talk to Hamas'

www.guardian.co.uk
The incoming Obama administration is prepared to abandon President Bush's doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organisation, sources close to the transition team say.

The move to open contacts with Hamas - which could be initiated through the US intelligence services - would represent a definitive break with the Bush presidency's ostracising of the group.

The Guardian has spoken to three people with knowledge of the discussions in the Obama camp.

There is no talk of Obama approving direct diplomatic negotiations with Hamas early on in his administration, but he is being urged by advisers to initiate low-level or clandestine approaches, and there is growing recognition in Washington that the policy of ostracising Hamas is counter-productive.

*********** The Empire talks back **************

When did talking become such a dirty word.
Communicate .

Back channels / front channels./ ex-presidents / text messages / carrier pigeons .... knock yourselves out !

Urge to rant ........ subsiding .

Yes it is time to stop the madness and start somewhere, because the people legitimitely chose hamas to be the majority government despite what israel or the u.s. may have hoped to materialize, one root of the problem in recent years is the reversal of diplomacy and if not actually talking getting the parties together, I mean if the missiles were not being fired during the ceasfire which it is documented they were not, I don't really care how many were fired before that, it is clear that Hamas, the government , not the terrorists associating themselves with HAMAS were willing to abide by the ceasefire to possibly start building some sort of preliminary blocks towards peace, much debate is out there and many facts pointing away from HAMAS as breaking the ceasefire in the first place.

Obama already telegraphed his stance and said it many times that he is interested in a solution and he is going to talk to both sides, no matter the previous administration's made up rules that have sharply contrasted the country's previous policies of if not anything else, another use for Camp David, this is a much more civilized approach than dropping bombs on civilians and mashing up and maiming hundreds of innocent children that had no choice in the world and hell they were born into.

I saw some reports and pictures of Israelis that go to a hill adjacent to the border of Gaza and they are celebrating and clapping as the bombs drop, and the mushroom clouds of smoke rise above the skyline of the runins of Gaza, that to me says a lot about the mentality of both sides and that a 3rd party is needed to intervene in this nonsense.
