www.news.com.au
MICROSOFT chief executive Steve Ballmer says a test version of the US software titan's Windows 7 operating system will be available worldwide
by this weekend.
"We are on track to deliver the best version of Windows ever," Mr Ballmer said while making an opening keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show

"We are putting in all the right ingredients: simplicity, reliability and speed."

Has anyone got any advanced rumours about Windows 7? Will it be any good?
Will the FBI whinge about it being able to help the cyberhackers?
As long as it's better than their previous releases, then I guess that's got to be a good thing. Make it easy for people to stay connected in lots of
ways, including FaceBook, which is mentioned in the news article.

I hope Vista users get a free copy of Windows 7 when it's finally released, it's nothing less than they deserve. The early reviews of this beta seem
favourable but take that with a pinch of salt & reserve judgement until you've tried it yourself.

I agree with Niall197, their should be a free upgrade for the Vista users..At least give them 30 days to upgrade or something.

Meh. I'll roll back to XP. Then,, way after Windows 7 is out of Beta testing, and I've gotten an idea of what the average review of it is, will I
consider it.
As for an upgrade... I'd rather see how much memory it usses first. Vista is horrible.

I changed to Mac three months ago and will never go back to Windows. Although I think it's not so extremely much better as some mac-a-holics try to
convince you, it runs smoothly without troubles... all the time. Doesn't get slower, barely any errors, etc.
Windows is past, Mac is future

This desktop I'm on now, my 'beastie' runs XP and will never ever let that dirty Vista touch it's hard drives.
On the other hand my fiancé has a Vista laptop that cannot be rolled back to XP because some of the components are Vista only.
I hate you Bill Gates.

After the turd-on-the-Persian-rug that was Vista, does anyone really give a damn what else is going to come out of Microsoft's collective sphincter?

I'm tempted to try it, but I don't have enough free harddisk space to partition off for it.
Shame MS don't do Live DVD demo like most Linsux distros.

A guy on Lifehacker did a side by side comparison with 7 and vista, he seemed quite happy with it, said he booted up to a fully functional desktop in
under 30 seconds.

Vista isnt that bad, Ive got a
Asus P5QE Deluxe Motherboard
Radeon HD4870 Video
4GB corsair Ram
Intel Dual 2.8Ghz
1TB HDD
BlueRay Burner
And Vista runs as sweet as XP.
All my games, programmes... The only problem I ever get is when I download something sus ie spam.
I dont know why so many people winge about Vista, I think they just dont take the time to get it working properly.
As for Windows 7, I dont know why Microsoft are relasing software so close to vista,
Why didnt they just incorporate all thats good in 7 with Vista?
I think there's just to many windows being released now, XP will forever be a flagship for Business, and Vista could be the flagship for home use, if
people gave it ago... but windows 7 in my mind will be another windows millenium.

I consider myself to be somewhat of a computer expert, having done multiple IT courses at TAFE specialising in multimedia and quite frankly Vista,
imo, is no better than Millenium. It's almost impossible to network properly to my XP machines, constantly spams me about this and that unimportant
crap, takes about 1 month to clog the processes up to a point where I basically have to reinstall it (as opposed to maybe once a year for XP)....
I could go on and on and on about Vista and how terrible it is, I am somewhat hoping that 7 is going to be decent (as decent as a Microsux product can
get) but I'm not holding my breath.

I bought a relatively new notebook with Vista on it. When I first booted up I hated it. I wanted to throw the thing out the window. After taking the
time to clear out all the crap and disable all of Vista's "services" like the real-time indexing and that god-awful UAC thing it's just a shiny
XP.
Vista only sucks if you leave it in its default state. Tweak it or, un-tweak it in this case, and it's perfectly fine for new games, 20 year old
games (with some command line work) every productivity software I've tried, serving as an Apache server, etc...
It does everything I need it to. I would just like M$ to reimburse me for the time I spent re-setting it up.

Haha, don't be mad at Bill Gates. You should be mad at the laptop manufacturer, not Microsoft. Microsoft attempts to cater to the world with their
software, not an easy feat, but the moment something does not work correctly, everyone becomes angry and hateful.
I have been running Vista for some time and I have no problems with it. I didn't even disable anything at all. Everything is smooth. I have yet to
see what everyone is complaining about. UAC? Not an issue really, unless all you do is install garbage on your computer instead of actually using
it.
Windows 7 should be just as stable as XP and Vista, but should also be capable of running on older hardware, where Vista might not have done so well.

Yeah a friend of mine has a simular spec'd pc as yours and it runs slightly faster then my xp pc.
Personally I can't justify shelling out $$$ for new hardware just to get Vista running as well as my existing XP box.
From my understanding ( thanks to /. ) Windows 7 is pretty much a revamped version of Vista.
I wouldn't be surprised if some (if not all) of those new win7 features will end up in Vista via service packs.
I'm convinced that MS is only pushing Win7 to get the low(ish) end of the pc market away from Linux and the soon to be unsupported XP platforms.

Thats odd, because I've done a couple of fresh installs of vista (one on each of my computers) and it took me maybe 20 minutes of setup and all of
them are running better than any XP system i've ever had/used.
AS far as windows 7, Upgraded vista kernel, smaller footprint, less "bloat", less resource usage, less nagging UAC (for those don't know how to
just turn it off), Better network/wifi management, more productivity features (aeroPeek, aeroShake, better taskbar, aeroSnap, better calculator).
For those of you who don't know much about Windows 7 thus far:

Ive got 2 Vista Home Premium machines running, both run 24/7 and one of them runs Sam Broadcaster automation software plus MySQL server and 2 mp3
encoders. Not a single problem with either of them.
I see no reason to jump on the bandwagon of throwing out something that is sill working.
I also got 1 Win95b, 1 Win98SE, and 1 WinXP Pro machines all still running perfectly.
All have never had to have a re-install. So I dont know what folks are doing out there to muck up their systems so much..maybe it all that porn and
trojan/virus tagged mp3's being downloaded...or those spam in the can screensavers. Whatever it is, something tells me these folks wont have any
better luck with Win7 either.
Cheers!!!!
