Imminent Yellowstone 'Supervolcano' Now 'Unlikely'
The recent "swarm" of small earthquake tremors happening in Yellowstone National Park are not likely to be a sign of a pending "supervolcano"
eruption as some fear, according to a top scientist at the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory.
Dr. Jacob Lowenstern of the U.S. Geological Survey said Monday that the earthquake activity in Yellowstone most likely will continue for weeks, "and
then will end without any other related activity."
I most surely hope these people are right!
I’ve been following the other Yellowstone threads here on ATS with not just a little fear.
Living right next to an active volcano (spewing lava as I type) I can’t say I have a great fear of *mine* (Etna) but as far as I know she doesn’t
present the world changing event Yellowstone’s volcano does is she’d erupt.
I hope this helps those who are worried about Yellowstone!

Well that's great news, but i wish he would elaborate a bit more on why he feels its nothing to worry about.

There are so many opinions from specialist about this thing. I sure hope this guy is the man with the right answer. I am really worried about this
thing blowing. Seems the shaking has calmed some today. Makes you wonder why? Everything makes me wonder though..lol

Excellent find and an excellent observation: if its not guts, gory, mayhem, destruction, catastrophic, or in any way similar to Armageddon, it
doesn't get much attention around here.

Thanks for trying to combat some of the fear mongering. People are fascinated by death as opposed to peaceful life for some odd reason.

I always find it funny when folks complain about this on a site like ATS. This place wouldn't exactly be very popular if it didn't have these
things. Its a form of entertainment. Do you go to the theater to sit and watch people live normally or do you go for the action, excitement, drama?
I fully admit i love reading doom and gloom purely for the entertainment value. I figure if its true there isn't a whole lot i can do about it anyway
but sit back and enjoy the ^&%&^i^ show!

I always find it fascinating that people try to justify fear mongering on a site like ATS. ATS doesn't have to mean pointless hysteria, fear
mongering, death, and destruction 24/7. I realize people get off on it and its entertainment, but there are much better ways to entertain yourself.
This stuff is presented as REAL and not a movie. I'm glad you and I are smart enough not to fall for it, but there are a lot of gullible people on
here who do fall for it and routinely flee to their nuclear bomb shelter every time someone has a dream about the apocalypse.

Morningggggg Everyone...
Wake up America - you still there?
Oh Good!
I was just talking to a friend here about all the earthquakes worldwide (while keeping a close eye on my friend Etna) and most people here had no idea
America has a volcano that could, well, destroy humanity as we know it.
EEKKK!!!
So, in trying to squelch fear here on ATS I inadvertently caused a bunch’a woohoo here in my own home town.
Ugh. Go figure!

The US government dosen't have a very good track record in telling the citizens of this country the truth. Could this just be spin and disinfo to
keep the rabble from going nutz?

It wouldn't be so bad if they would stop using quotes from the movie super volcano from the scientists right before it blew up. Then again its not
like the government was worried when they updated fema on this situation. It's also not like the government ever lies about anything or hides stuff
from us.....
damn I'm feeling even less safe now.
My own prediction for 2009! We have a higher chance of Yellowstone going boom then we do a an Obama assassination or them ruling he can't be
potus.
Happy new year!

Well my guess would be that each of the small earthquakes relieves some kind of pressure or tension buildup at yellowstone, if there was no small
earthquakes first im sure there probably would be a big explosion, so its something they've seen in the past, thats just my guess...

Exactly what people who on the volcano (here) say.
When she's quiet, no rumbling, no shaking - watch out!
As long as you can see here and feel here she's all set.

Thanks for putting forth something other than information supporting the possibility of disaster. No one seems to care about the side where people are
saying things will all be okay.
This kind of article is exactly what I've been looking for

Vulcanism is very complex, like the weather, and and pays absolutely no attention to what has happened in the past.
Vulcanism and plate tectonics are related but vulcanism is like the crazy brother in law that can blow up and cause havoc for the slightest
provaction.
Mt. St. Helens had a swarm of small earthquakes before the deadly eruption. In that case it was just a warning not a release of geologic forces.
Mother nature never pays much attention to the hopes or prayers of man.

Hey guys, long time reader here that was too lazy to post lol. I really think that some people grasp at the negative ends of these types of things.
Anytime some probability is raised of some evil conspiracy, or iminient disaster there are those that begin to salivate and jump on it with zeal.
I don't see any problem with being attentive and keeping tabs on certain situations, but when you start to delve too much into speculation and start
taking "amatuer" opinion as a basis for absolute fact you run into a problem.
It reminds me of the 2012 special that was on tonight I think on History channel. They would quote verses from Nostrodamus and make these HUGE leaps
of interpretation that made NO sense with what was quoted.
Thats the one thing I have to say I always liked about reading this site. There are a healthy amount of middle of the road skeptics that won't just
take whatever is shoveled their way.
I say there is nothing wrong with us looking at the data here, but don't get too wound up. Hell, if the thing really blows, we are toast anyways. Sit
back, enjoy the show, and don't forget to just live without fear!

I don't know much about this volcano, but your comment is not the first I've seen saying, "we all will die?"
Do you mean the entire world? I don't get it.
