U.S. Army Says Blogging Site 'Twitter' Could Become Terrorist Tool

www.foxnews.com

“Twitter has also become a social activism tool for socialists, human rights groups, communists, vegetarians, anarchists, religious communities, atheists, political enthusiasts, hacktivists and others to communicate with each other and to send messages to broader audiences,” according to the report.

Is this the real start of censorship of the net by the military and also the surveilance of such groups seen as terrorists which is a pile of bunkum.

So people who have different views or are veggies are now classed as terrorists. What has the military got to be scared of from such groups, yes some can and do take direct action but are they terrorrists in the true sense of the word.

Is this the start of the toe tagging and a round up of such people who are not seen as the brain dead patriot.

From OP source:

“Twitter is already used by some members to post and/or support extremist ideologies and perspectives,” the Army report said.

The blogging service and social networking site has previously sent out messages known as “Tweets” faster than news organizations during such major news events as the July Los Angeles earthquake and the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.

Sounds a wee bit like a profile of ATS don't you think?

They have said the same thing about World of Warcraft.

Quite frankly I believed that one even more

I am sure if terrorists can attain nuclear capabilities they can also attain custom software. You'd think? heh.

Oh no! They can use it to *gasp!* COMMUNICATE!
Well, we can't have people communicating, now can we?!?!

What!???

That is totally rediculos. Are we actually paying someone to sit around and come up with these kinds of ideas? Really?!

Well I just hope they shut it down right away.

Why wait til the terrorists start using it?

It is already being used by subversive and dangerous groups like human rights activists and vegetarians.

I say stop it right now before it gets any worse!!!

Ugh... anything can be used as a terrorist tool. If you block one road they'll take another. You can't just shut communication down and expect things to be allright. They can't make the world safe for everyone, it's like trying to cure the common cold. It just doesn't work that way. I'm sick of this terrorist rhetoric. I'm sick of yelling about it, of watching it happen... I don't even know why I'm typing this.

I think this is obviously a proxy attack on ATS itself. The government cannot have us receiving points for joining the ATS feed, to much attention to too many sensitive topics. Something must be done to stop alternative theories and thought. We must all be the same, act the same, talk the same, ultimately, die the same; fueling the hive.

Ah yes, the secret is out Twitter is the place to go if you are a terrorist, I guess we’ll have to resort to plan ‘b’, that being myspace….or mebbe facebook, or maybe we’ll make anonymous emails on gmail to communicate. Really, twitter was just our Red herring. –rolls eyes- If you get down to it, the entire internet is teaming with places that you could send coded messages, and plot anything from a cookie bake to terrorist attack. Why and how Twitter was chosen over the plethora of other sites makes me wonder if the army has ever actually BEEN on a computer, let alone the internet. It is also a giant *facepalm* to anyone one with half a brain, because they realize just how stupid we look when anyone in government says things like that. Doooods if this is our intelligent network in the U.S. We should probably start learning to speak the language of our future occupying army. *twitch* Real brilliant army guys…*insert heavy dose of sarcasm*

I think the main reason they are calling so much attention to twitter, is because twitter can be easily accessed via mobile and was used time and time again to point out the police brutality/mistreatments of the DNC, and RNC.

If terrorists wanted to communicate, then they'd code there own programme, use something as benign as msn, post as anonymous on 4chan, or, even use something like Tor. Hell, set up your own message board under the guise of general chat then add private sections to it. Why are they doing this? Why are they blaming social networks for terrorists? How many terrorist attacks have there been organised over the net? How many would be stopped by disabling TWITTER!? Or - are they going to give, a fat juicy contract to 'filter' (ehrm... censor) the internet to some corporation whose ex-CEO now runs the country. You know, similar to Dick Cheney, or the 44 million dollar Australian internet censorship programme.
Or, would this be to stop people being educated about different ideologies, learning the truth? Either way, the official explaination is BUNK!

LOL have you ever played World of Warcraft? I have played it for nearly 2 years now and quite frankly the idea that WoW could be used as some sort of terrorist meeting ground is ridiculous! Buy the game, log on and spend 2 minutes in Shattrah City watching the chat and you will agree with me

I get your point though, the idea of Twitter being used like that is ridiculous at best.

I said I believed it "more" not that I found it at all likely
But I was really just making fun of the people that keep coming up with these theories.

Try IronForge when GrandFather Winter comes to town pre-BC

They are blaming social networks because it's the fastest way to spread information: i.e. - memes.

Ideas and information are going around the planet like wildfire. Information is power and, as such, dangerous to the PTB.

They used information to control us and now we are using information to destabilize their power base.

I just think the Intelligence communitys have been thrown on the wrong foot when they came across the term 'nuke' a lot after reviewing what they listened in on. (a term to indicate inflicting the maximum amount of damage per second possible)

I think the world'd be safer if terrorists would use WoW to meet..

*remember guys, tomorrow we honor our brothers by bringing death to the infidel!*

"What? Tomorrow? I can't tomorrow, I've promised to go to outworld tomorrow, my Guild is counting on me!*

*Ahhh.. was that tomorrow? right.. change of plans! same time, next week?*

"But.. boss.. I really want to see the new expansion! imagine.. lvl 80 and Death Knights! Can't we bring death to the infidel in Warsong Gulch?"

*Hmm.. not a bad idea.. let's bring death to the coalition.. err.. alliance !! FOR THE HORDE!!!*

This new 'snippet' of news is just the latest in a long string of 'news' seemingly designed to put the future of the internet on the line. I guess nothing is for granted, and if we don't want to lose the internet as we know it, we'll need to break away from our keyboards and let our voice be heard whére it can be heard.
