I usually consider myself a stoic person, but the other day I found myself crying because of the song for the first time. And Im not ashamed to admit it. It was Harry Chapin's Cats in the Cradle. It brings up very powerful feelings for me about my dad. I think Ill try spending more time with him.

So Im just wondering has a song ever made you cry? If so what?

these songs made me cry. I lost my father in 1994. I still get a little sad when I think of it.

Gotta be honest here, a song had never once made me cry until I became a father. Now though, there are two songs that get me every time I hear them.

Bob Carlisle - Butterfly Kisses

Steven Curtis Chapman - Cinderella

My daughter is only 2 years old right now, but these songs already get me teared up.

Cats in the cradle gets me too. So sad, and such a realism for many of us.

The only other song that I remember gettin watery eyed over is Tears in Heaven By Eric Clapton.

There's a live version of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Life Without You" where he breaks down and starts talking to the audience about how much of his life he missed because he was messed up on booze and drugs. Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it, because I know he was finally getting his life together when it ended all too soon.

Edit:

Here's one take... his break down starts around 4:43...

This one's not as strong as other boots I've heard, but he liked to take that time in the song to get the word out.

speaking of stevie ray vaughn, here's his cover of "Little Wing"

though i've never cried from listening to a song, this one hits me harder than most songs i have heard in my life, which is funny because it's not really the kind of music i prefer.

they sort of cut it off at the end since it's apparently a promotional video for Fender but still, it's all but just the last few seconds uninterrupted

Yeah, his Little Wing floored me when it was first released. I suppose it still does... I don't know if it's a testament to Jimi Hendrix's genius, that he could write a 2.5 minute song that was so perfect, or that SRV could almost triple that length and still have something beautiful to add to it.

Edit to add... Great irony that that video's a Fender ad... The poster frame of Jimmy reaching around and playing the double-neck with him is a Robin, not a Fender.

I had someone close to me take his own life, and this was his favorite song. Now everytime I hear it, I ball like a baby.

I miss you, Brian!

I haven't cried because of a song since I was around 6 or so, but there are a couple of songs that bring me to the brink.

Forever and Always by Bullet for my Valentine is one. The song makes me think of my girlfriend. We have a "strained" relationship and the song brings up alot of mixed feelings.

this one gets me choked up because the memories attached to it....

UP WHERE WE BELONG (Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes)

Who knows what tomorrow brings
In a world, few hearts survive
All I know, is the way I feel
When its real, I keep my pray alive

The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb steps every day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Some hang on to "used-to-be"
Live their lives locking behind
All we have is here and now
All our lives, out there to find

The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb steps every day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Time goes by
No time to cry
Lifes you and I, alive, baby

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow
