G'day all,

as the topic says, what did YOU want to be when you grew up? What did you write back in school? And did you get their? Share your stories...

I'll get the ball rolling...

I wanted to be a Doctor and stand up comedian back in school, not like patch adams or some thing, more like I wanted to save lives during the day then do stand up at night at a comedy club...wierd mix, but hey I was 12!!

Right now, I'm (almost) a lawyer and professional Actor.

So I guess it kinda worked out the way I wanted it.

Hey q_ball. Interesting topic.

I wanted to be an astronomer and in my spare time a world famous archaeologist.

Did I get there? No

It wasn't until I had my first child that I realized that all really I wanted was to be a 'mom'.

Its funny how things work out, some thing you dread can be some thing you like. And some thing you dont ever expect is some thing you can be doing.

All I ever wanted to do, was dance. Yeah, on stage.
Only audience I have now is my kids and my mirror.
But despite my age..I can still keep up with the Pussycat Dolls.

That's a great point, q_ball, because I never thought about having kids, and even up until a year or so before having my first I still thought I'd just do my own thing for the rest of my life. And now, of course, can't imagine life without them.

I wanted to be a firefighter. Growing up when there WERE no female firefighters i was told it wasnt possible. ( family friends .. they all looked at me as if to say , " where on earth would a girl get THAT idea in her head" )

I wanted to own two giant complexes/mansions.
One for homeless people and one for animals and I wanted my job ( I assumed the gov would pay me very well) to be going around in my bus picking up stray and unwanted animals, grooming , training and taking care of them and finding new homes.
And on rotating days I would go around and pick up homeless people and pretty much the same deal. But they would be allowed to stay for long periods of time if need be.

And from age 12 + when that wasn't an option.. I've had no idea what I wanted to do.

However I do already have a dog, two cats and two rats so, maybe i'll open a petting zoo pretty soon when they completely take over my apartment.

Other options that were about a week each were:
Artist - no real skills
Chef - bad outfit
Clothing designer - bad at sewing and designing clothes

Oh and SugarJ my mom was an awesome firefighter, she started as a volunteer. Everyone told her she wouldn't be strong enough.

This is a great subject to be started.

Let's see when I was 11 years old I read my first book from start to finish. It was called....

Runaway Ralph

After that I wanted to be a paperback writer. That dream faded as an adult after I educated myself on how difficult it is to get a publisher to even look at your work let alone actually publish it!

Never thought about what I wanted to be, when people asked me what I wanted to be, I didn't know. I simply like being me, and wherever life takes me, I go.

When I see people who want to be something, it's odd, they want be defined by that something, but you are not defined as a doctor, a fireman etc, you are you.
Now I'm confused lol.

Edit: I do recall wanting to be a racing driver. And I've always wanted power, like being able to fly

When I was younger, I remember telling my dad I wanted to be a Waitress - because I loved restaurants and I loved waitresses. They were also so nice to me, gave me coloring pages and crayons lol.

My dad told me "Own the restaurant, and you can be a waitress if you want to, not because you have to."

I had NO idea what he meant until I got older. Since I was knee-high to a duck I wanted to have my own restaurant. The type of restuarant changes often - perhaps one day I'll own more than one. I don't want one right now - the timinig isn't right. But one day, I'll have one.

Right now however, I am in school for Psychology. I haven't decided if I want to be a Psychologist, or a Lawyer. We'll see, I'm going to wait and see after I finish the degree - then I'll decide which field I'm going to continue studying.
