No they didn't. Insulting members of ATS as sheep that can't reason and make decisions on the evidence is myopic thinking on your part.

Sorry, Gus. When that info by Willie was posted, everyone was fawning over him, thinking, "This is it!! The truth will be known now!!!"

And I agree with Andrew, too.

Originally posted by whaaa I think most of the members here can make informed decision without the input of the rich and famous.

Hmmm, well, I have to agree with that. Who really cares what the rich and shameless have to say?

But if this were anti-McCain, everyone here would be all over it, thinking it was better than sliced bread.

It's not an insult to "ATS" members.

It's an insult to the celebrity addiction this country suffers from.

Tim Robbins says "blah blah blah" and suddenly makes a few more million dollars, because a lot of people think just because you're on TV, you're something special.

When willie nelson spoke out in favor of an inside job 9/11 - LOTS of people listened, and praised him for it. Even LOTS of people here in ATS.

Personally - i think anyone who buys into an "inside 9/11 job" has a few screws loose, but that's just my personal opinion.

on topic again:

OUR society in the US is a celebrity-centric society: More proof is offered by instances like this.

When this country becomes less interested in pictures of Brad Pitt and Angelina's baby - and more interested in the advancement of science and education - we'll all be better off.

Until then - do all of us a favor. STOP posting garbage that a stupid actor says.

Whats next? Somebody going to quote Keano Reeves of saying " i believe the matrix is real, and Obama is an agent"

And we Obama supporters are called sheeple

Sorry Virgil, you just confirmed my point about rightwing thinking. "no shades of grey"

I'm sure that you and other conservatives would be supporting McCain so "everyone" wouldn't be thinking its better than sliced bread.

This is not a world of absolutes, no matter how comfortable that type of thinking is.

See my point?

If your expecting Democrats to pull a "Dixi Chicks" type hate campaign against John Voight for stating his opinion... you will be waiting awhile. There are far more important issues that need attention and focus than the crap posted in this thread.

I don't think left-wingers are waiting or expecting the Democrats to pull a hate campaign against anyone...

...besides, the Republicans are so much better at it because they get a lot more practice.

What is amazing is the fact that anyone here of all places, thinks that whomever is president will matter. The puppet masters are still behind the curtain and will remain there for a long time. And I'm not jumping into an NWO is coming thought pattern. When Hoover gave the NSA the power they have today he screwed up in a big way. Now between the CIA and the rest of the alphabet soup boys, anything can and does happen (as a matter of national security) and the voting public has exactly ZERO it can do about it. So vote or don't vote, whatever. But please don't think that Obama is going to have anymore power than he has right now. Or McCain for that matter. IMHO

Because he was pandering to many of this board's residents which happen to be conspiracy theorists who like to stretch the truth and then make up facts to fill in the gaps.

Of course the people you see responding negatively to Jon Voight on here are Obama supporters and won't give the message the time of day. Nevermind that there IS sense in what he said.

VOIGHT: My concerns for America
Obama sowing socialist seeds in young people

Monday, July 28, 2008
Actor Jon Voight. Associated Press.

OP-ED

We, as parents, are well aware of the importance of our teachers who teach and program our children. We also know how important it is for our children to play with good-thinking children growing up.

Good thinking is defined as "Those who think like me!"

How else can you define "good thinking"? That should all depend on what you value. The left will view "good thinking" much differently than will the right. So right off we have "us and them" rhetoric. Great.

Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger.

Hah! You should have met my Father. THE MOST Angriest white man on the planet. He hated EVERYONE, including himself.

We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

Nope that's not right at all. My father was a very hateful person. What I learned most was NOT TO BE LIKE HIM. He was physically abusive to all of his children. He was racist, and bigoted toward anyone who had more than him. He threatened my mother with knives and my earliest memories of him are of me hiding under my bed from his foot as it kicked at me.

My point? This was EXACTLY the Anti-Role model I needed. My life has been one of diversity and learning where his anger came from so I can avoid it myself. I have learned the personal demons that he, and I fight with, but I have chose to fight those demons differently and not blame everyone else for my issues, but to take responsibility.

So angry mentors can really have the reverse effect that Mr Voight is talking about. Keep that in mind.

The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way.

The same can be said of any political party. The following applies to the Republicans as well as the Democrats

1. They quest for power. Thank goodness because who wants a party who isn't interested in power?

2. They manage propaganda campaigns. How else do you get a nation of 300 million people to vote your direction?

3. They use subliminal messages. yep, this is true for Republicans as well as Democrats.

4.Creating a God-Like figure in a man who falls short in every way. This in itself is simply a propoganda statement from Voight himself. See #2 and 3

It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.

You don't think that the people you mention see this country as already demoralized? And what makes you think these people will "be in power" I don't see them as members of the team here.

And if they don't get an office of some sort once election has occured, what will you say then? Mea Culpa?

The Democrats have targeted young people, knowing how easy it is to bring forth whatever is needed to program their minds.

Once again, this is what every generation does to the younger. We target young people to program them. And?

I know this process well. I was caught up in the hysteria during the Vietnam era, which was brought about through Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement.

Oh... so the American Gov turning our troops into drug addled baby killers didn't have anything to do with the drive toward peace?

The religious section of our country also was involved with the peace movement... they must have been evil marxists too.

The radicals of that era were successful in giving the communists power to bring forth the killing fields and slaughter 2.5 million people in Cambodia and South Vietnam.

Whoa.. so you are equating the radicals (always a good thing especially during the American Revolution) in this country who marched in the streets as being responsible for the killing fields in Cambodia?

If that isnt PROPAGANDA I don't know what is.

Did they stop the war, or did they bring the war to those innocent people? In the end, they turned their backs on all the horror and suffering they helped create and walked away.

Really? A bunch of pot smoking hippies practicing free love and protesting the war did all that?

Get Real.

Those same leaders who were in the streets in the '60s are very powerful today in their work to bring down the Iraq war and to attack our president, and they have found their way into our schools.

Thank GOD! Have you seen how blatantly unamerican the war in Iraq is? Have you seen how the same people who are against the Iraq war are FOR the war in Afghanistan?

Yes we should attack our president, with the impeachment papers which are in congress now. This is because this guy absued his office for personal gain.

William Ayers is a good example of that.

Really? Ayers is against the Iraq war too? Go figure.

Thank God, today, we have a strong generation of young soldiers who know exactly who they are

Ok.. I support the troops. But as a vet, I will tell you that the majority of the people who join the military do so because they DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE. I've never seen a a bigger bunch of posers than the bootcamps that go to the field and fleet. They look like a bunch of dime-store cowboys and hiphop popsicles as they are trying very hard to create an identity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the military, but let's not get carried away here.

and what they must do to protect our freedom and our democracy.

They follow orders. Period. The young generation in our armed forces simply follow orders. That's it. You know why? Because otherwise they will be punished.

And we have the leadership of Gen. David Petraeus, who has brought hope and stability to Iraq

After those before him totally screwed it up because there was no GAME PLAN!

and prevented the terrorists from establishing a base in that country.

Meanwhile, Why we are diverted with Iraq, Osama is still on the run... Great

Our soldiers are lifting us to an example of patriotism at a time when we've almost forgotten who we are and what is at stake.

Once again, our soldiers are following orders, as they should. patriotism is defined not as Blind Nationalism as this guy thinks, but as the will to stand up for your fellow man.

There are tons of troops who are not patriots, but have no other recourse financially than to join up. Some are thugs who have been given the choice between prison and national service. Some are islamists working to change the system from within.

Others though are high minded patriots, like Tilman who gave up everything for the ideal of America. Too bad his own troops killed him.

If Mr. Obama had his way, he would have pulled our troops from Iraq years ago and initiated an unprecedented bloodbath, turning over that country to the barbarianism of our enemies.

Instead we got the barbarianism of ourselves. Abu Ghraib, Rape muzzles given out by the CIA so that forced oral sex could be a tool of suppression and dominance. great.

With what he has openly stated about his plans for our military,

yes.. to remove them from harms way before we don't have any military left.

and his lack of understanding about the true nature of our enemies,

Really? I bet he realizes the difference between sunni and shia. Can you say that about McCain?

there's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb.

Who created those darned Atomic bombs? Oh wait.. WE DID!

And while a misleading portrait of Mr. Obama is being perpetrated by a media controlled by the Democrats, the Obama camp has sent out people to attack the greatness of Sen. John McCain, whose suffering and courage in a Hanoi prison camp is an American legend.

First off.. Greatness of McCain?

Respected war hero yes... BiPartisan senator.. yes

Greatness? Is this the kind of "God-Like figure" propoganda you were just accusing the democrats of?

Also, no one is attacking McCain, because we don't have to. Obama stands on his own WITHOUT the need to attack.

Gen. Wesley Clark, who himself has shame upon him, having been relieved of his command, has done their bidding and become a lying fool in his need to demean a fellow soldier and a true hero.

Oh so the military is great as long as they support your cause. Other than that they are lying fools?

More propaganda.. really? i thought you were against propaganda?

This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America.

Completely agree, Bush as SCREWED our nation Royally.

If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.

Can you look in that crystal ball and tell me if I will win the lottery too?

You know, in your spoutings-off in that last post you claim that the example of your hateful father was an anti-role model for you, but I have to say that in your response, all you did was pick it apart and respond with nothing but negative, hateful responses. I think you've learned to be hateful more than you realize, especially when it's about something you disagree with on an emotional level.

Your overall response was far from un-biased and shows an emotional outburst. On many of those points there are both positive and negative responses, but you chose to criticize on each and every one.

It reduces your credibility, IMO to everyone except those who have the same agenda as you do.

Could you please show the hate in my post?

I don't think I ever posted hate towards anything except someone who attempts to act like they are taking the high road, but uses the same tactics which they accuse their opponents of.

Passionate? yes! You betcha.

Emotional? I don't see it in there. Could you point that out to me please.

Hate? Frustraion maybe... I don't see any hate in that though.

Well, we have a choice between two. There's good and bad ideas in both camps but what can one do......not vote??

Our people are also dying over there and for what is the REAL reason?

They (Iraq) want to run their own lives, it's their country. This Big Brother mentality is going to break the U.S.A.

We CAN NOT afford this to continue. Who is going to pay this huge debt?

The truth, the REAL truth is we don't know the whole story and never will.

Russa tried for ten years to beat Afghanistan, and couldn't do it. They gave up and left.
You think the U.S. is going to do better with a tired, over worked fighters. If McCain gets in the Muslims will unite like never before and fight to the last man. Their GOD tells them this....bottom line.

Good luck

Good question! John Voight can now stand side by side with Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton and Sylvester Stalone in supporting John McCain.

Quite a brain trust of celebrity support he has going there!

I put much more weight in the opinions of ATS posters than I do John Voight.

I think the last movie I saw him in he was getting eaten by a giant anaconda? Well then he MUST know something about politics! LOL

The only good thing about Jon Voight is the fact he created a beautiful daughter, and that daughter is greater then he imagined (with her support for the poor, the down and out).

Let us all praise Jon Voight for being a hypocrite but also bringing a beautiful human being into this world (and did I mention attractive?).

ATS never fails to amaze me.

You see, to be accepted on ATS you have to hate america.

You have to hate freedom.

You have to be one of "them".

You have to hate all that America stands for.

You have to shroud your own hatred of the world in "long winded explanations" and claim that what you are doing is only "expressing your views"

So, now Jon Voight is painted as a know - nothing idiot. Only because he has a point of view.

Can his point of view simply be heard? No. It has to be picked apart and physcoanilized by some monday morning quarterback here on ATS.

The only hollywood types that are accepted here are the ones who hate America.

I don't have to name all the michael moores, charlie sheens, blah, blah, blah........

These are liberals in their true form. They come out and attack. They blame conservatives and republicans for doing exactly what they do.

Attack away libs, i'm waiting.

Hrmm... since Free Speech is very American, and John evidently exercised his, are not the rest of us allowed to also exercise ours?

Are you afraid of some sort of cognitive dissonance caused by free speech?

Could you please explain how the exercise of my free speech, as I was the one who picked it apart, could be seen as hating America?

I just don't see it, and I would LOVE for you to point it out.

Although I am monday morning quarterbacking this, I admit, so is John Voigt.

Once again, in my exercise of freespeech, could you please point out what indicates that I somehow "hate America"?

Thanks!

I was going to respond point by point, but frankly you aren't worth my time and you are talking crazy. I am a liberal and I view all celebrity opinions equally. I take them with the same weight as a social acquintance. What they say is no more valuable because they are a celebrity...whether they lean left or right.

You lumped Charlie Sheen and Michael Moore into the same category...which is kind of apples and oranges since one is an actor and the other makes his living on political and social commentary.

You talked a lot about hate. I suspect you feel a lot of it and for that I am sorry for you.

I love this country dearly, not hate it and am always willing to listen or debate with anyone that feels a similiar love of country...regardles of whether they lean right or left.

You though...you feed the inaccurate stereotypes some liberals have of conservatives. Full of vileness and contributing little.
