*pats AD on the head* so, do you want a cookie or a cracker for your effort?

teasing

seriously and in all honesty though, you are none of those things. you are a member who is acting as though you are one.

when you have moderator by your name, then you will be a moderator.

the job of a mod is much more than just pushing a button and writing out a complaint on someone. been there, done it, and would never want to be a mod again. bc i have been there and know what it takes, i say we give them their proper due and not "pretend" that by pushing a button that we are one. just my opinion.

what he means is that we all have the responsibility to self moderate on this board. We all have the ability to make this user generated ecosystem a beautiful garden of knowledge or a cesspool of idiocy.

Thats what is meant in the OP (well I think)

Without naming names, the idea of having a button to alert DHS or the NSA or whatever strikes me as just plain wrong.

OK, I'm posting in the capacity of just a member, so the site can choose this or not, and I'm not speaking for them.

IMO,one of the things that is wrong with America now is the 1-800-I'MA RAT. Hitler introduced the idea in the modern world, and America calls it being responsible. Being responsible is having the guts to stop crime, not reporting your neighbor because his dog keeps you up. The system is open to so much abuse.

And somebody here wants a direct line to the DHS? The minute that happens, I'm not just no longer a mod, I'm no longer a member. Personally, I find willing snitches repulsive. Big Brother loves them, but I don't.

I was a Mod on a call of duty game server at first it was cool but over time it interfered more and more with my gaming time, and got to a point where all I did was mod, kick players ban them settle arguments or try too. This server was huge we were ranked 40th when there was 3 million people playing in a day.

My point is I don't envy the work the MODS have to do, when us members are enjoying the site posting threads, u2uing friends or commenting, these ladies and gentlemen are working not for money but for the love for this community.

*EDIT TO ADD* I think one of the things we can do to help is when a MOD must take action, don't take it personally.

i personally don't see there being a problem for those who want to enquire on a decision made so long as they are being respectful about it. but to run and squeal on ppl not only is weird, but i would think it says to the mods that you don't trust they are on top of those things. they were chosen for a reason and you weren't. it's as simple as that.

and to the OP, i am not trying to step on toes here. i am just saying that the owners chose to bestow this title on them for more than just pushing a button. they have earned the respect to keep their title sacred. again, imo.

* i wish i could star the above post

I only said that about MODS moving threads to BTS this used to
me off but now It's doesn't bother me as much anymore, besides I have negative bts points anyway..LOL

I'm just saying being a MOD does have its perks but it's a lot of hard work and time consuming as well.

*edit to add* as for squealing on a member, if you saw a house on your block on fire or being robbed wouldn't you call for help? Same thing here this community it is what WE make it.

I agree. But telling us, via an alert, isn't the same as alerting homeland security. Each of us, member or mod, polices the board to some extent. If someone posts porn, we'll be told. But someone deciding to snitch to DHS about a poster's political views is a whole other ball game.

The first is good ATS citiznship, because this board might be seen by your kid sister. The other is being a government stooge.

We all know the difference.

Whats being said here is we are a community, and the only way we will remain a decent community is if we all pitch in and make it the world we wish to live in.

I've been a mod, a writer, fighter, scholar, FSME, Contributed to Tinwiki, made probably hundreds of podcasts, and to this day, I am still just a member.

I visit ATS everyday and love learning the things that each and every one of you teach me. I am a better person for what you are willing to share with me from the path you walk.

You may not have the title under the avatar, but you are all of these things.

You are a teacher, a seeker of knowledge, a Master in the moment when the student is ready to hear just what you have to say, You are the soul that was there when the time was right.

Your a member of ATS.

I actually think thats more important than many of us give it credit.

Love and light,

Wow reporting people to DHS or NSA is extreme and IMO just uncool, we do after all have the right to free speech in the USA, or we did anyway.

Perhaps a "RedAlert" function could be made available that allows members issue a Preliminary report/alert to ATS about possible terrorist and criminal activity.

ATS would then have the responsibility of deciding which of these incidents is to be referred to Crime Stoppers or Homeland Security, possibly even Immigration and Naturalization or The National Security Agency.

In this age of Global terror where our Freedoms are at stake - can we really afford to take such chances?

You scare me.... I think I need to have you checked out...

The minute you do that once... the next day ATS would cease to exist. And WHO decides what is 'possible terrorist and criminal activity'? YOU?

Or do we get a panel of qualified judges involved?

We have Homeland Security now and the Patriot Act... we had Homeland Security back in Germany too... it was called Schutzstaffel (protection squadron) or better known as the SS

As I said

You scare me...

I love you all to death but I think it is pretty obvious the guy either has a very twisted, wry sense of humor or he is attention trolling. I didn't want to say anything at first but everyone kept taking him so seriously. lol
