Chavez wants the Russians to build bases in Venezuela

According to Russian press agency Interfax Hugo Chavez offered today Venezuelan soil to the Russians so that they can build their military bases three hours away from Miami.

I guess Fidel must be dying with jealousy.

“Rusia tiene muchas posibilidades de posicionarse en el mundo. Si las fuerzas de combate rusas quieren erigir bases en Venezuela, son bienvenidas”, dijo Chávez, de acuerdo a un informe de la agencia Dpa.

My translation:


Russia has a lot of posibilities to position itself in the world. If the Russian Military forces want to build (military) bases in Venezuela, they are welcome according to Dpa (news) agency.

my parents generation had the cuban missle crisis and we get venezuelan missle crisis how freaking fun! i know that a lot of the russian military activity is just muscle flexing to gain respect in the world's eye but wow, talk about eye for an eye, eastern european missle shield gets us russian missles up our A**, is it getting cold in here again?????????

Personally, I think Venezuela is opening Pandora's box. Once Russia gets in the door, well...who knows how long they will remain.

I realize the same can be said of the US and some places where we currently have a foot in the door...so please don't flame me.

Chavez is making a genie wish, he'll get what he wants, but at what price?

and lastly, whats Chavez gonna do when the US and Russia make nice?...we have alot more in common with Russia than Venezuela does...The US, Russia, and China all seek to lock up the known oil reserves of the world.

Chavez also declared, albeit hypothetically, that Russia would be welcome to deploy a military base in his country, if it asked for such.

Hello? ... Venezuela is in OPEC and most of South America is controlled by the Bormann neo-Nazi facet of the NWO. I respect your opinion, but I totally disagree.

Chavez antics are a response to president Alvaro Uribe`s success. He has tried in every possible way to destabilize the Colombian regime, (do a little research and you will see), but he has failed miserably. He has destroyed Venezuelas economy, he can`t feed his people, and most of all polls show that he will loose the next election in 2009.

Uribe on the other hand has a popularity rate of 90%, (it must be the highest one in the world), and he has rescued Colombia from the ashes and most of all from the hands of the FARC.

The biggest ànd strongest ally that Chavez has is the FARC, Uribe has nearly destroyed them, Chavez had all his hopes on the FARC overthrowing Uribe and taking Colombia over.

What does this have to do with the Russians?.

Well, on one hand the U.S. Government stopped military support and assistance to Venezuela, and Chavez had to go to the Russians to get all his weapons, he is trying to get as armed as he can.

On the other hand Colombia`s biggest and strongest ally are the U.S.A, and most weapons that the Colombian Army has come from America most of them free of charge.

Correa in Ecuador is closing the U.S. base in Manta. A couple of months ago there was a rumor that that base would be transferred to Colombia, Chavez threatened to declare war and take over the Guajira (a border territory between the two nations) in response. The Colombian Government backed down and announced that the base in Ecuador would not be transferred to Colombia.

Chavez has the most corrupt regime in the region, he knows that if it weren`t for the oil money we would be out of a job and probably in prison, he will stop at nothing to stay in power, and distract his people`s attention from the real issues such as the lack of food in Venezuelas markets.

I don`t really think that the Russians are going to build the base, after all Chavez has begged them to build a refinery in Russia so that he can refine his heavy high sulfur oil there and not in the U.S., so far the Russians have declined.

Any serious nation in the world knows Chavez is a madman, but this type of statements are the ones that keep him in the headlines and increase the support of the communists in Venezuela (his real and only supporters).
