Russia warns over US-Czech shield

news.bbc.co.uk

Russia's foreign ministry has said it will be forced to react with military means if a US-Czech agreement over a missile defence shield is ratified.

The statement comes hours after the US signed an initial deal to base part of Washington's controversial missile defence system in the Czech Republic.

It said Russia would respond "not with diplomatic, but with military-technical methods" if the system was deployed.

This is the first time Russia has signalled it would take military action against the missile shield.

What does it mean? Will Russia destroy the shield, point missiles at Europe or invade Eastern Europe?

We shall have to watch and see what happens next.

Or they could just hope Obama wins the election. He is against the missile shield... at least he currently is. Once in power that could change.

That's a different matter and on a different subject altogether regarding immigration.

China doesn't care what goes on in Europe, unless nuclear warheads start flying all over the place (which isn't going to happen). China and Russia are just neutral partners not allies.

The missile shield is reference to Russia losing influence in Eastern Europe to NATO and the European Union. Which the Russian's do not like.

My guess about "military-technical" measures - aiming nukes at Czech republic and declaring that they will develop new missiles for nukes. Nothing more.
It is to warn Poland and other countries.
So i believe (hope) nothing will happen with Czech republic - beautiful country and beautiful people.

Open threats seem order of the day at these times. We're heading on a path of uncertainty. We've got the Iranian Nuclear saga with all parties openly speaking of action and retaliation. Now we've got Russia saying it will openly use weapons against any Missile installation.

Something as give at some point. I can't see any of the parties backing down any time soon. War in the near future is inevitable unless somehow these countries can compromise in some manner.

According the the news I am watching, Russia will build their own shield or ICBM sights starting in Belarus and then begin production on Short and Medium range Nuclear missiles. That WMSM say Russia means by military-technical methods

Yeah things just dont seem good at all right now do they. I see a WW coming in the next 10 years I totally agree. There are just to many issues in to many areas of the world for something not to break....I think one straw will really break the camels back in this case. I just hope it doesnt lead to nuclear war.

Really?

Looks like we are heading back to the Cold War
Expect Britain and France now to start increasing their stockpiles.

Apparently, so does at least one person in every thread, regardless of the news story.

Their military/technical response will be another Cuban missile crisis

I think we are on a world tour to see how many countries we can piss off at us. This is ridiculous. Maybe they are determined to fulfil this 2012 prophecy.

The station I was watching (Channel 4) have yet to put todays vid clips online. But I have found these websites that cover what I heard on C4, not the best but at least I found out I didn't imagine it.

Top Russian generals have threatened to deploy Iskander tactical missiles in neighbouring Belarus and to resume production of short and medium-range nuclear missiles in response to Washington's missile defence plans.

english.aljazeera.net...

(Looking at the paragraphs there is obviously a singular common source out there and other agencies have just re-worded stuff).

Potential Propaganda aside, I am greatful I didn't imagine what I heard hehe

The stupid thinking of the Allies.
They should include Russia as part of it.
Thats a better solution.
Stop being arrogant and swallow there pride.
Russia would be a great Allie and technical partner on anything to do with something like this.
Although I personally believe a missile shield is a total waste of money designed purely to transfer public tax funds into private corporate hands legitimately without having to outright steal it.
Clearly the US and Russia are the only 2 countrys with signifigant nuclear arsenals.
So of course Russia would think its to stop there own missiles.
How could they not expect them to get annoyed.
They have an estimated 16000 of them.

The missile shield delivers a very clear message to Russia.

We can hit you, but you aren't allowed to hit back.

The only reason you would want a shield against ballistic missiles is if you intended to give them a reason to use those ballistic missiles.

I seriously doubt anyone in Russia is thinking of any form of invasion, not into Europe or anywhere else.

This has everything to do with denying military oppression of a country.

What would the states do it Canada and Mexico created a missile shield around the US to render US missiles ineffective?
They'd do everything in their power to destroy that missile shield.
Washington would assume the missile shield is there because they intend to give the US reason to use those missiles... and hence, would destroy the shield and demand to know what they had planned that warranted boxing the US in.

Russia is no different.

Uh, check your history. Russia was offered a partnership, which they (foolishly) turned down to, instead, embark on this confrontational approach to the West.

That's great advice - for the russians.

Russia has proven to be a worthless ally. They prefer to dream of somehow going back to the "glory days" of the soviet union instead of trying to figure out how to live in today's world.
Technical partner? Most of russia's good people have already left. As for their other technical "achievements", after we saw what they had, I think the U.S. came away wondering why we ever were concerned about them.

Why is this news spread all over the media, while at this very moment, these great leaders chat, eat and drink together at the G8 meeting?

Russia is an ultra-nationalist country that, as previously mentioned in here, wishes to be the powerful Soviet country they once were. Allying with them would be a huge mistake, as we would be going against our ideals of freedom seeing as they oppress any type of free speech in their country.

The KGB is slowly and craftily taking out any public figures who openly support true republican democracy and freedom of speech. Russia is NOT who we want to associate ourselves with.
