If a teenager can enter the military and be sent off to war to kill or be killed, why can't they buy alcohol then?

I joined the Army when I was 17. I did my AIT at Redstone Arsenal, AL. They had a strip club on base, and as we were allowed to go in, we weren't allowed to order a drink.

I was then sent to Germany, where at the PX on post, I bought a 6-pack of beer. At 18, I thought this was the coolest thing.

I got out of the Army at age 20, go back to the states, and back to not being able to go to a bar/club, because I was under 21.

I still don't get it. Send a teenager out to die, but don't let him get jacked up on Heineken!

i agree its stupid

in the UK - you can sign up to the army when your 16

you cant drive till ur 17
and cant drink till ur 18

yet in places like italy the legal drinking age is 14

the laws in the UK are weird, you cant buy the alcohol till ur 18, but u can get pissed up at a m8s house, and its legal (when ur under 18)

Who cares if it's legal or not.

Just as long as the 18 year doesn't get caught drinking alcohol.

Are you sure about that, I was under the impression even possession of alcohol by someone under 21 was a crime. In Virginia you loose your license if you even attempt to buy beer while underage, provided of course you get caught.

The excuse that I heard years ago for not being able to get your licence and drink at the same age is the fear that kids are going to go out and get loaded before getting driving experience under their belts. Just what I heard from a former cop.

No offence intended, but if I murder your family and don't get caught does that make it legal or ok?

move to australia, lol.

but seriously, it is almost the opposite over here.

here you can.

Get you licence when you are 17
you can legaly drink/buy beer/buy hookers(in certain places)/buy porn/buy anything else when you are 18.

the ago of consent is 16 for females 18 for males

but you cannot join the army (unless going to the army university) untill you have life experiance.

you also have to go to university to become a cop/ambo(paramedic)/fireman.

sorry if i have gone off topic, im gunna go to the pub and buy a beer. (im 19) ner ner ner ner ner (j/k)

Or, move to Quebec. Drinking age is 18, driving is 16, age of consent is 14 in Canada for both sexes. The same for Alberta, I'm pretty sure, for drinking age.

Are you a guy or girl, because even though it would sound ignorant, as long as your a guy I dont see a problem with it, its when you get the pretty girls a little relaxed that you develope some problems for everyone.

To answer the question of the thread, I have a theory. Most students graduate at 18, the posible age of induction, but you can't drink for another 3. Now if you fog the mind with drink and partying, would you be willing to give that up to enlist? In a perfect world that would give you 3 years to consider the services. It's like Vegas, the odds are for the house.

When I lived in Alberta I was driving at 14! I also learned in law that the legal age for marriage is girls -12, guys -14. Now WTF is that all about?

Jonna. Murdering someone and drinking a beer are so completely different I honestly don't know how you came up with that analogy.

*EDIT: Drinking age in Alberta is 18.
