Just wondering if anybody could tell if they were actually talking to a Spook..

Are there any signs? Would they try to post Disinformation... Debunk someones theory as BS or completely agree with you.. Prod you for your views On certain topics, Etc...

One of the things I've noticed on conspiracy boards is that when a thread gets too close to the truth, shills/debunkers/"spooks" will come on and entirely derail the thread. They will immediately start an argument about anything or everything to get people's minds off of whatever post was very close to the truth. On another board, when I would see this, I would just keep posting the salient point, over and over.

Here's the other thing they do: They will NOT let a thread end on something close to the truth. They want it buried in pages and pages of arguments, ad hominems, and straw-men.

In a thread, look for when the thread is derailed (in whatever manner), and you can be sure that somewhere in the previous 5-10 posts is something that is very, very close to the truth.

Now, another thing they will do is to "assert" some really wild theory, as an extension of some conspiracy. See almost any of the exotic theories in regards to 9/11. They do this so you go "Oh, those wacky CTs believe super alien death rays brought down the towers". This one used to be relatively rare, but is becoming more common, as more truth is exposed.

Another thing they like to do is to ridicule anyone for daring to think differently. Now, really think about this.... let's say you think souping up cars to run fast is ridiculous. Do you spend time on race car forums saying how ridiculous it is? If you think raising a garden is ridiculous, do you spend time on gardening forums saying how stupid it is? No, you have better things to do with your time. As a matter of fact, has anyone seen ANYONE do this on ANY OTHER forums, besides conspiracy ones? Sure, you WILL find the occasional troll, but they tire of it, and move on. "Spooks" will not "tire" of "debunking", no matter how long the thread goes on, they will keep at it to keep the truth buried.

How do you defeat a spook? Look for that post that is within 5-10 posts of where they start to derail a thread. Repeat it over and over and over and over. Every time they try to derail the thread, or START AN ARGUMENT, keep posting that information over and over. You will notice the real spooks (i.e., paid disinformation agents) because they will not tire of refuting and derailing the thread, through whatever means.

Once you REALLY start looking for it, you will notice it. Once it has been called to your attention, it will stand out like a sore thumb.

To repeat: When you see thread derailment or arguments starting, know that somewhere in the previous 5 or 10 posts the truth was stated.

Oh, one more thing: How to tell a regular troll from a disinformation agent: A troll is just there to stir up.... stuff. They don't care what the post is, or who is posting, or what it is about. A disinfo person, on the other hand, most certainly WILL care. They only stir up...stuff... when someone hits close to home, otherwise, they will be, typically, rather cordial.

Hope this helps.

You speak as if you have first hand knowledge of their tactics. Can you point to an example on this board?

I would hazard to guess that you will not know when you are "talking" to a spook, that is if they are worth their salt.
