This is the stuff I ponder when staring at and driving in highway 401, which is
a SUPER busy highway.

Something tells me there's a heart attack coming.

Jeah, were definately clogging up the arteries.

We should go on a diet.

Its kinda too late now. Try telling people to drive less, people did it for years but wont believe it. Yeah the roads are too blocked, but how exactly do you think it'll explode?
I can see it causing more accidents or extreme acts of road rage. But explode.... You may have to elaborate on that one.

And we would be the oxygen molecules that are vital to the continuing survival of the body. Cities are the organs of the body.

Actaully, the main cause of traffic is NOT because there are too many cars on the road. That is rediculous.

The main cause of traffic is the complete lack of driving skill. Here in California, they don't even test to see how you drive on the freeway when you take the test, even though that is the most dangerous part of driving, they don't even test you on it.

The biggest flaw of all, is people don't know how to merge into traffic, and they don't know how to match speed.

Also, another reason of traffic is peoples reaction time! Say you have 10 cars stoped at a red light. When the light turns green, the first car lets go of his brakes, then a fraction of a reaction time later the car behind lets go of his brakes, then a fraction of a reaction time later the car behind it lets go of his breaks... and repeat. This is actually causing traffic because the very last 10th car in line is still stopped, even when the light is green!!!

If every single person was paying attention to the traffic light, and the very second they saw the light turn green they let go of their breaks, all in syncronization, all 10 of the cars will move at one time, in formation. Completly eliminating traffic.

Also, I think someone needs to hang a sign every 1 mile of road that says "SPEED UP"!!!!!!!

This is possibly going to turn into a debate between drivers and non-drivers before very long. There are too many cars on the road, but people will not stop driving and drivers will disagree because they need this freedom. traffic jams are caused by idiots but the problem is heightened by an overpopulation of drivers. If 10 cars sit at a red light etc.... well yes but 10 cars is too many, if there were five would there still be the same problem? If there were half the cars, wouldn't driving be an easier experience?
The original poster brings up a very good point, but in my opinion offers no goal which is a shame. And drivers will not agree as it does not agree with them as a person.

If you get rid of traffic, there will be less cars on the road at any given time. If you raise speed limits, cars will be on and off the road for less amounts of time. Population is not the problem. The drivers are. I don't even need to debate this, its so true.
