I just started using this image as my windows wall paper...

But I'm starting to feel a bit daft because I can't identify those two coastlines below.

I had a couple of quick looks around the net but I can't seem to find any detailed info on this pic, all I got is the ref on the bottom (S114E7220)

Can any one ID those coastlines, or know where I can look up the image - I tried the Nasa ISS page and the search didn't help.

It's a small thing but it's bugging me

Maybe this image can help. I tried, but I can't figure it out.

I think it could quite possibly be the coast of kuwait to the west.

And to the north west the southern coast of Iraq.

And to the north and north east the coast of Iran.

Take care.

Regards
Lee

It's the upper part of the Caspian Sea with the Volga Delta at the bottom.

You can reference any NASA picture just by putting the image number into Google Search.

Here's a direct link to the NASA page for the image.

Hey thanks for that - I thought I'd tried that, oh well

Still can't exactly line it up with google Earth yet, best I can figure is that the top of the pic is more or less south. Least I can tell anyone looking over my shoulder what they are looking at now! cheers

Now I got it!!!

Top of the pic is East (left=north, right=south)

That's the Volga river coming in from lower left.

Sometimes I feel a little slow, but with help I usually get somewhere

Edit: If anyone is interested it around the 45deg N / 48deg E mark

I just took a look at Google Earth, and yes, you have the orientation right. The top of the picture is East and Russia is on the left side, or North.

Your post caught my interest because my screen wallpaper is S117E08045 with the ISS a little further along in it's stage of construction, the solar panels have been moved to their permanent position and another set added plus a few more parts.

spaceflight.nasa.gov...

Here's the mini jpg, but I have the hi-res on my screen.

Glad I could help....

Edit: Dyslectic photo number. :shk:
