The only thing I know we can do is support the little man as much as possible. We stay out of Wal-Mart as much as possible. I don't like to spend one dime in there I don't have to. It makes very little difference though. If everyone did that it might help.

You know corporations are too powerful. Like some megacorporations have bigger budgets than some smaller or poorer countries. And remember economic power can all too easily turn into political or military power.

Lets here it for Inglewood. Standing up to Sprawl Mart and winning. Bravo. But the question is...how longer can we resist?

Its only a matter of time before they take away your right to vote down Sprawl Mart With all the money and political influence, Wal Mart will keep on chuggin unless you can make state wide bans.

How to stop them? Stop buying their crap and giving them your money.

I have never been in a WalMart, this was a choice I made a long time ago and has let to fights with my father but they don't get any of my money.

I try to shop in smaller stores, it may be a little more expensive but it is usually faster and more friendly than a mage store. Those whose time is more important than their money will understand what I am talking about.

I also attempt to not to buy thing made in China (it's tough). I would rather spend $150 on a nice pair of shoes from Italy that will last for years than a pair of Nike Crap made by slaves that will fall apart in no time flat.

I stopped watching TV almost two years ago as I didn't want to be brainwashed and told how to live my life anymore. Most people look at me as if I were insane when I tell them I don't have a TV. "What do you do?" is the usual question. Hmmmmm, read, talk with my girlfriend and others, do stuff. I hate when people tell me they don't have time to do things. How much of their time is spent infront the boob tube. Remove that and you'll havbe loads of time to follow your dreams.

The corps may be rich, but only because we give them our money. Scale your life back, stop buying crap you don't need. Think before you shop. If we all did that then the corps would be kept in check. But the word "SALE" seems to turn most people into consuming idiots.

Corporations try to find predictable methods, proceedures and outcomes. It likes to produce standardized people. The people may look somewhat different but they all think and behave the same way. A little voice tells you to, "Obey laws, be absolutely polite, act happy even when you don't feel it, do not create disorder."
Corporations, given a chance, can eat your soul.
Corporations do not suffer political, social, or economic instability well.
Corporations try to guess the future and impose it when they can.

The legal system, religions, and corporate culture try to funnel us into a single mold. The goal seems to generally be to produce good corporate clones. Sometimes we without realizing it have taken many of these values upon ourselves with out carefully examining them and their long term ramifications.

Life revels in unpredictablity of play and genuine laughter.

Wear the vestments of corporate/societal enterprise as needed, but keep at least a little something left of yourself to nurture.

As a society perhaps we would be better off if we didn't get too fixated on particular goals, but instead tried to keep progressing in a general direction.

What if we started making women the CEO's of all major corporations and multi-nationals rather than men? This is something I've been thinking of, and I think it's a pretty darn good idea. I seriously doubt a woman would have created the Enron debacle.

It's not so much the Enron's that I was talking about when I made this thread. I was talking about corporations especially the military industrial complex gaining too much political and economic strength to the point that they endanger our liberty. And trust me there are plenty of females helping Lockheed Martin bribe senators into signing off onto a new contract. I would reference the one Senator recently indicted for taking bribes but I forget his name.

wouldnt a more secure state relenquish the resource delpletion, and consolodated efforts harbor a more robust scientific outlook with regards to technological networking agreements between nations?

if you could spread information faster then you could raise efficiency standards amongst industry and the productivity rates would increase.

perhaps a utopian outlook is needed...

The answer begins with......

Managed capitalism within a free but fair market place.

Right now we have unbridled capitalism with no respect to national soverignity, security or the welfare of its citizens......

When corporation were first created in England they had required stipulations within every charter to maintain the integrity of the country and its citizens where it was founded.

Today the only stipulation that exists within a corporate charter is to maximize profits and extenuate costs...........that is nothing more than a receipe for nation destroying and enslavement of individuals.

Furthermore, the free market and capitalism must recognize and be managed in such a manner to respect the limited resource potential of this planet rather than see markets and growth of profits in an infinite progression.....

I'm not a communist nor a socialist...........they are both abusive and failed systems throughout history.............

But if we are to have a free market with a caplitistic drive and competition we better balance it between the resource pool of this planet and the population it supports.....

Now you can argue all you want to whether the forces that exist are consiperatoral or by accident in the consequences of what they future may hold for this planet and those that dwell on it.........but the bottom line is an answer lies somewhere within the stipulations I've suggested.

I work for CVS/pharmacy corporation...retail management here... around here, CVS is buying out the smaller mom n pops shops, or pushing them outa business, to open more stores, killing the competition...this angers me, though i am employed with them. I once talked to my boss regarding this, being a monopoly, and was told, well if you dont loike it, then leave...
so! with the bigger a Corpration becomes, the more violent or dishonest they become as well....
Here, we have 2 walmarts. All the sears, woolworths, stores fo that nature have folded up. and the customer service sucks too... hell, the cvs i work in, they hire illegal immigrants! 1 of the walmarts, their sevice sucks as wel as their security. Many times, ive seen some guy stuffing air fresheners, ec tin his pocket, while security watches me, becuase of my long hair. Goes to show, the quality of education has fallen too

They virtually circumvent every border on the planet, they control huge chunks of the economy and wield vast political influence. A corporation is, ultimately, legally obligated to maximize profits for its shareholders. This directive is antithetical to the common good. We have health insurance corporations denying healthcare, agribusiness dumping waste wherever is convenient, private contractors in Iraq compromising soldier safety to make a quick buck, and all manner of equally despicable practices that I don't even know of yet.
