Good thing my post is further back in case some others figure it out before they see this...
Humans have always had the ability to communicate over long distances exactly the same way animal species do. It's all in finding the right
frequency. Variable oscillator superheterodyne transceiver comes to mind (built-in; original equipment).
I'm sure its an interesting story on how humans lost their ability to do that; I'm sure ATS has threads on that.
I guess we really need to work on redeveloping some of our lost skills (we used to have).
