my guess its computer generated but judging by his other videos it could just be some obscure element magnified.

It's ferrofluid, and it's quite fascinating stuff.

Wikipedia has an excellent article on the it.

In simple terms, it's nano-particles of hemetite or magnetite that are coated with a substance that keeps them from linking together to form a mass. These particles are suspended in water, or other organic liquids, and are highly reactive to external magnetic forces.

I didn't watch the video completely since I recognized the substance right off, but at the very beginning that particular effect is gained by applying a vertical magnetic field to the liquid.

You can get it at wonder magnets. Its the missing link in the production of chaep and free energy. Fun stuff. If the siphon flow kid got some he would have bridged the gap in his project. I'm not here to babysit though.

Heh, oops.

I fixed the link so it'll lead to the article I actually meant instead of back to this thread.

While it may help lead to cheaper energy, I don't think it'll help bring about free energy.

It's already used as a coolant in some electronics, like high end speakers.

This is cool. Thanks for the link.

It would be cool to see this stuff being used by artists to make massive, stylized, walk through exhibits.
