(Not a one-line post, and on-topic, sort of...)

When i was in Kurdistan in 2005, we got about 3 feet of snow, but then that was in the mountains.

I'm in Diyala province now, N.E. of Baghdad. I was definitely surprised to see a dusting of snow yesterday morning. Just small flurries, but snow nonetheless, along with it being freezing cold. It's always been cold this time of year, but the snow was definitely different, even if it melted within a couple hours.

It was a nice change.

Iraqis are VERY superstitious about this kind of thing.

I was in Baghdad in 03/04 and we had a record amount of rain that winter. Many Iraqis were certain that it was a sign from God that they were entering a period of re-growth, socially. Many felt that we had brought on a social spring time.

We actually saw a short decline in hostility for a time, possibly due to the optimistic superstition surrounding all the rain.

If rain was such a big deal, how much more will snow be.
