Eaters are savers, while carvers are payers, Iowa says

A new department policy this year has made Halloween jack-o'-lanterns subject to the state sales tax, and many Iowa pumpkin growers are feeling tricked.

Iowans planning to eat pumpkins can still get an exemption from the sales tax, if they fill out the "Iowa Sales Tax Exemption Certificate" form.

...what.

This is craziness.

Techinicly, its within the law, since you aren't using the pupnkin as food, so it isnt tax exempt... but a pumpkin is food in my book...

What if you Carve a Jack-o-lantern, and roast the pumpkin seeds to eat...

Buerocacry sucks...

WOW TK !!!!

The state actually takes an interest in what you do with your food...Taxing you for making a pumpkin is like taxing you for giving your food to the dog under the table...

I mean, how many kids the world over have done that ???

Sheer madness TK....so sad

Peace

Hey Iowa, tax this!
I am so sick of these stupid little tax inventions. Let us tax anything and everything that will fix those damn tax payers. This mentality is so old and tired. I wonder what this century's tea party will be.

Well, in another nice tweist to this story, the governor of the state decided that this tax was ridiculous, and vetoed it.

Anyone who was charged the tax can go get a refund...

Go and get your .22 cents back... it will cost more in gas, but oh well....
