The H5N1 has made it's return. Back in '97 the health officials were pretty worried that it was the beginning of a pandemic, so, as mentioned in the
article, in the end over a millions ducks and chickens were killed. The calls for a pandemic are renewed!

realistically the numbers are pretty low in total cases reported but 18 cases and 13 deaths is a pretty scary ratio.

Yeah, and now it's crossed over to pork. Man, I gotta have my meat, and I don't consider tofu as the other other white meat.

i stopped eating beef and pork 5 years ago, it was hard as hell. i still crave a bacon double cheeseburger from time to time but turkey burgers are a
pretty good substitute.

Hopefully they get back with the results on the pigs soon.
It's been projected that the mortality rate for H5N1 influenza in humans is 75%. This is something to watch.
Wonder how many cases China has that we don't know about. Wouldn't be the first time they denied a problem!

Remember my thread Avoid Mad-Cow? I'd Rather Avoid Chicken...
More people have died world wide from chicken than have died from beef. Fact!

even more so now, I wonder why Bush issued an executive order to protect our food supply from terrorism?
perhaps this will be our future and somehow claims will be made that terrorists are behind the rash of animal diseases.
i also wonder if perhaps the government could be testing different viruses to see its effects for some evil plot or perhaps like population control?

Actually, yes. This past summer 3 men contracted rabbit Fever (tularemia). They caught it after running over a rabbits nest while mowing the lawn.
