Another phase in Russian President Vladimir Putin's imperialistic aspirations is being realized. It was just a matter of time before the Russian navy returned to the Mediterranean and resumed permanent command over the Syrian ports of Tartus and Latakia, which it abandoned with the fall of the Soviet Union.

This move by Russia shows that they are willing to make a stand on the midddleastern front, any move by Israel to take on Syria could now involve dealing with a Russian response also, this is another pressure point added to the middleast and likely to be a factor in pulling the U.S. and Russia closer to an armed conflict. It was the north pole a few weeks ago now this. They certainly are pushing some buttons lately.
