Car On Fire Driven Into Glasgow Airport Terminal

A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.

Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.

They have also described seeing two Asian men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.

This is breaking News, there is no full story yet. it is being reported on BBC News 24 and also the website on breaking news.

This does seem ominous after the London car bombs yesterday.

Im hearing that this car "crashed", through some barrier, and also the police were seen struggling to detain him.

BBC reporting news 24 Chereokee Jeep on fire driven in terminal, smoke raising over Glasgow Airport, two asian men were seen jumping out of the car, one of the men was on fire. The jeep crashed through the glass doors of the terminal. Police and security wresteled the burning man to the ground.

On sky they are showing the event, they reckon the car seemed to have some sort of extra propellant as a few explosions were reported.

And reports of more people injured.

Skynews TV are showing Video of the fire,

Sky news are saying now that it was a Landrover not a chereokee jeep.

eye witness saying people are injured by an explosion, the airport is being sealed off and the police are not giving much information to the press.

pictuers on sky now showing massive smoke and fire where the terminal is.

"pandemonium" at the airport by eye witness. "Bang in the departure lounge" being staed by witness as definate explosion.

sky saying maybe a cherokee jeep not land rover.

Well they are saying it was driven deliberately, with intent to cause harm, just an angry customer???
You know how stressful airports can be, or something more sinister??
There is a heck of a lot of smoke on screen, watching these live pictures.

Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud "bangs" and saw a man on fire.

well done ATS once again picking this up before the web news wires. Is there a time delay on Google News like there is on Groups?

Breaking news reports that a witnesses saw a man taking a gas cylinder from the car just before it burst into flames. It was removed from the car by one of the vehicles occupants.

Witness reports are now saying the car occupant was seen taking out a gas canister before it caught on fire.......

Why are they all going wrong?

Sky news has just said that an eyewitness at the airport, who was waiting for her daughter to fly home from Benidorm, says there are casualties at the scene.

And another witness report says that one of the men removed a "gas cylinder" from the car before the police got to him.

Sky News stating strathclyde police had to use considerable force to detain the two men as they resisted arrest. "fighting" with police is how witnesses are describing it.

Airport has now been evacuated and all flights are grounded airport is closed by news 24. 500 metre cordon around airport being evacuated.

My prayers go out to any who may be injured or killed by this.

strathclyde police saying that two cars crashed outside the building then caused problem, which is at odds with eyewitness reports on BBC news 24.

one of the men who was on fire apparently started fighting once he was doused by airport staff. One eyewitness though unsubstantiated staed on BBC that explosives were seen in the car.

Both men are handcuffed and taken away from scene by the police.

Not sure about why these are going so wrong, just does'nt seem like professional terrorists, if indeed this is what they are.

Homegrown terrorists could quite easily think they have the know how to knock up a device that will do damage, but maybe unaware that it can be a bit more complicated than petrol + gas cannisters = explosion.

They are saying that one of the occupants, the one that was on fire was a large man, and was knocked down by a member of the public before being grabbed by the Strathclyde police. It appears that there was a bit of a fight before they were able to get the men.

if part of their plan is for the vehicle to be 'on fire' before they get out of it then I can see it not going to well for this particular group. I mean that's dumb isn't it? I mean they're clearly not suicide bombers as the guy ran off from the first car and these two exited also. Possible Darwin awards in the offing?

reports from N24 say that the explosion came from something form the BACK of the car NOT the petrol tank.

Although 7/7 was a "success", it all went wrong a fortnight later for them so I am leaning towards homegrown terrorists here. Whether it's because of a lack of training or they choose poor materials, I don't know.

This is awful.

With so many attempts over there, it makes sense to be vigilant over here.

Any word on casualties yet?
