War Crimes aganst Isreal?

I havent had chance to read all the links yet but i have a quick question, was the Liberty in international waters or Isreali waters?

The survivors, to a man, all seem to believe it was a deliberate attack.
That's good enough for me.

We should have blasted the entire Israeli Navy out of the water in retaliation.

Neocons love to whine about France "not being an ally" because they don't kowtow to us and do everything they say.

Then they turn around and bend over every time Israel says "boo", even though it's a nation that has murdered our sailors, hands our technology to China, and God knows what else...

Makes me wonder if Syria, Jordan or Egypt would "Accidentaly Sink a USA Ship".

That would have real dire consequences for them...

There's a BBC documentary on the USS Liberty incident which stated that the US actually launched two bombers with nukes on them en route to Cairo, prepared to retaliate, believing that it was Egyptian planes which attacked the Liberty. This was done on orders from the President at the time, despite the objection of the captain of the aircraft carrier. The documentary is called USS Liberty - Dead in the Water.

I think i saw that program too, i think they were on standby with Nukes but didn't actually take off, my recollection is a bit hazy as it was a while sinse i saw it.
I seem to remember an interview with an Israeli attack boat crewman saying that the attack was Israeli.
As was said above, the crew are of the opinion that it was the Israelis, and their opinions as eye witnesses is of vital importance.

The fact that it was the Israelis that attacked the Liberty is not in question, the question is whether they knew they were firing on an American ship or not. Seeing as how the ship was flying a US flag and the attacks went on for quite a while, from close range, I don't really see how that is in question either. I think the Israelis expected her to sink quickly with no survivors, in which case they could blame it on the Egyptians and get the US into the war on their side.

After watching the show on the History Channel about this there is no doubt in my mind the attack was deliberate.
It is one of the most disgracing cover ups in this nations history. The survivors were threatened with court marshal if they told the truth and they were awarded their medals even a MOH in backroom not in a ceremony like they disserved. LBJ was a coward and did not retaliate on Israel.

Well, back when Rummy was still handshaking with Saddam, they accidentally fired an Exocet at a US warship thinking it was an Iranian tanker. Didn't have any consequences back then, so I doubt Jordan or Egypt doing it would have dire consequences if it was really by accident. Syria otoh is a different matter. Or if Israel does it again, maybe they could/would blame it on Syria and nuke them. There are unverified reports the US became close to nuking Egypt as they originally thought Egypt attacked the Liberty.
