Scottish scientists have developed a computer the size of a matchstick head, thousands of which can be sprayed onto patients to give a comprehensive analysis of their condition. The individual appliances, or 'specks', will form networks that can be programmed like ordinary computers.

Spray-on computer

There have been so many advancements in nanotechnology and computing in the last couple of months, how does this one stack up to the rest of them? The idea of a spray on computer is almost as tantilizing as a spray on TV. Everything is getting smaller, faster, and more powerful day after day, so where can a line be drawn? Or at this juncture, has the "line" been officially done away with?

This type of computing conjures up thoughts os everyone being turned into some sort of member of the Borg hive.

Regardless, all of these advancements have to culminate in the betterment of society somehow, dont they?

What do you guys think?

It doesn't.

Nanotech is molecule sized tech. These computing devices are the size of match heads... very visible and thus not nanotech or even close to nanotech. It's what we'd call distributed or network computing and there's a size limit to the things.

Still, it's pretty cool. They've had devices in fabric for quite awhile (I wore a coat that had an integrated bluetooth setup), but this would be good for monitoring patients more fully for some conditions.
