The guy may be an outspoken radical, but he's not a moron.

Agreed. This thread appear to be a loon magnet. On the other hand its also a chance to show extreme jingoism so that some may sleep better at night I suppose. Even the irreverent name calling (butthead?) shows how little things have progressed, sad really.

I may be wrong, but wasn't he here a while back, when Chavez was making his anti-Bush speeches before the UN? So this isn't really the first time he's been here.

Do us a favor and refrain from posting false statements like this. Thanks

I would suggest reading about the ETA (The Basque sepratists attack), Seas of David, Aryan Brotherhood , or even the KKK.

obviously terrorism to an extent operates within isolated areas, however concerning the threat of "radical islamists" and Iran, no sorry, it doesnt exist. It is quite simply an illusion, and ETA has little to do with Iran, unless you are proposing we invade the basque region and isolated areas of southern states in the U.S as part of this "war on terror"?. Obviously your not proposing this so i will in the future try my best to be as concise as possible concerning the context of my posts to avoid such pedantry.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the elected President of Iran so he will be shown the respect that comes with the office..

I think he should be arrested on the spot as soon as he steps foot on United States soil for his role in the 1979 US Embassy take over and kidnappings.

Bio of Iranian Terrorist-in-Chief Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"Mahmoud Ahmadinejads own admissions and statements in his Farsi-language website, where he provided a nice outline of his roles in that incident as well as his stint as a torturer with Irans infamous Revolutionary Guard"

www.homelandsecurityus.com...

I really don't know what to expect from Ahmadinejad on this visit to the UN..

I have seen reports that the Mullah's are on his arse for his actions over the past few months and that he might be on his way out as President.

You never know what a madman will do, so expect the unexpected during this visit, he could be calm due to the Mullah's pressure, or he could be a total raving mainiac while he has center stage and the whole world watches.

It should be interesting!

Your quoted words read exactly:

But your wrong though, the reason terrorism doesnt exist in western nations is the simple fact it doesnt exist.

And yet now you say "obviously terrorism to an extent operates within isolated areas."

Face it, terrorism is everywhere. it does not matter if they're located in one area, or if they're spread through the entire country. If it exists, it's a problem, and if left unchecked it will grow.

I have suffered attacks and harassment from white supremacists almost all my life in GA, and yet what is being done to stop them?

You may view Iran's Radicals Imams as a threat, but terrorism does exist in the west, and it has struck more and will strike more than those Radical Imams, until people stop turning a blind eye to it.

Nothing bad happened his wackadoo bat-cracker buddy from Venezuela when he spoke his childish "devil and sulphur" bit at the UN.

just my 2 cents... From what I understand about diplomatic immunity if he wanted too he could poo on barney in the front yard of the white house, and he should have no legal reprocutions...

I understand why you could feel the way you do about Ahmadinejad, but it would be a violation of UN charters (probably resulting in the removal of the US from the UN) to arrest any foreign leader, either A) on UN soil, or B) on a Diplomatically Immune Trip. As much as this guy needs to be removed from power it is up to the Iranian people to do so... Now if we wanted to get his out of power I would say black ops, leading to a revolutionary coupe in Iran is our best bet to get who we want in power

anywho a good term for us all to remember is Diplomatic Immunity. Though probably changed for modern times, in the charter days of the UN Multiple Communist representatives where suspected of murder, espionage, etc. Now there were way's around the immunity (I.E. MCCARTHY!!!), but it basically entailed enciting the people to break there own laws. if we need an easier word for diplomatic immunity... UNTOUCHABLE...

Just off the top of my head, what do you call the bombing of the
World Trade Center, The Madrid Train Bombings, The Subway Bombings in England, and lets not forget 9/11.

And what about that yahoo who got stopped at the Canadian Border with expolsives just prior to Y2K. Wasn't he going to attack the LAX airport.

I think the left coast of the United States is about as far west as you can go, so terrorism does exist in the west.

I dont see how this trip will be any different then his last trip to the UN a few months ago. However I am new to ATS and wasnt around to read the speculative post's regarding his last trip to the UN , if there were any such post's to read.

That was my question exactly, a few posts back. He will not be arrested or anything so sensationalistic, as is being suggested.

Most of the comments were included in a thread which addressed Hugo Chavez' anti-American, anti-Bush comments during his address to the UN. Do a search on those, and you'll find the thread.

Hugo Chavez is anti-Bush and anti-right wing, but that does not
make him anti-American.

I know it's off topic, but I feel I need to point that out.

Did I just hear the safety features on nuclear weapons being clicked off?

WASHINGTON (Reuters)

The United States has approved a visa for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to enable him to address the U.N. Security Council over Tehran's nuclear program, the State Department said on Monday.

www.washingtonpost.com...

Anybody who speaks a tad bit of Farsi knows that they grossly and purposely mistranslated his speech. They took him saying something about getting East Jerusalem back and printed in the western press that he said wipe Israel off the map. Total Zionist and Neo Con propaganda.

Racial hatred is racism. Making threats, violence, and harrasing people because of the racism is terrorism. Every group I mentioned has committed terrorist acts based solely on their hatred. They decided to take action and express their hate through physical means.

Iranian extremist Imams on the other hand are less of a threat than these groups, to the average US citizen.

Really, now?

CBN.com – CARACAS, Venezuela - His name is Hugo Chavez. He is the president of oil-rich Venezuela. Mr. Chavez has decided that America is his enemy, so he is building up his army. He has forged an alliance with Fidel Castro, and many think he is going to make trouble for the United States.

Emphasis added.

I know that you support Chavez because he is socialist, but please don't make him out to be some type of hero. He is a dictator who has stripped away the rights of Venezuelans..

These were his exact words:

"The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world," he said. "As the Imam [the late Ayatollah Khomeini] said, 'Israel must be wiped off the map'… The Islamic world will not let its historic enemy live in its heartland."

I don't know how many ways that could be interpreted.

I don't support Chavez simply because he is a Socialist, I support him
because I like (most of) what he has done.

He did not strip away anything, all powers he now posseses were demo-
cratically given to him, there is a difference between someone who
forcefully takes them, and someone who is given them by the people.

As for the statement, well I would like to know if perhaps words were
taken out, or how he said it meant the current administration.

No, that is the best effort at translating Farsi into brocken english, then moulding it into a coherent sentance.

I have learnt through my time in foreign countries, that even the people who can speak english, often say things in such a brocken/muddled way... that it comes out completely wrong.

If I spoke farsi, and heard that sentance... I dont think id of left with the impression he planned on wiping israel out.

like I said, he didnt say it in english, so you cannot say these are his words.
