What the hell is this? Very weird plane.

I found a picture of this on the internet but it was an Italian site and was just wondering if anybody knew what it was.

The U.S. had an experimental little jet fighter that could come in and land via a small hook, thus not needing landing gear but the project was scrapped....looks sorta similar. My best guess is that it was/is a prototype small fighter that the Italians or some other country was playing with......obviously it isn't active but that is a great pic.

Aerodynamically, it looks like a brick, but then again, nobody expected the F-111 to fly either. Is that the new VW plane?

I hope they add more cupholders this time.

Very curious, can't wait to hear on this one.

That is a computer generation. It is probably related to the fighters from Battlestar Gallactica.

It's a model from a 1970 Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds etc.) "live action" series called UFO.

It was actually the front section of a submarine call "Skydiver" captained by Peter Gordino!!

Wow, I must have been stoned when that series was on TV. I am a BIG fan of UFO related stuff and never even saw that show. Now I will have to scrounge up some DVD episodes from the local library and see what it was all about.

I do remember Fireball XL5 though. Can't say I have ever seen the Thunderbirds either.

Sorry, but it DOES have a nifty bud vase on the dashboard. You'll have to use an add on cup holder from Autozone.

Yea, it's a fighter from the 'U.F.O.' tv series. It's available on DVD if anyone wants to look for it.

Can't believe I know this...

His name was Ed Straker in the show, played by Ed Bishop.

Sad, but I've got the entire series on DVD!! Got it as a boxed set from HMV.

It's dated now (was set in 1980) and the production values in the later episodes seemed to slide a bit, but it was a great series nonetheless.

They should update it I think. With modern budgets and CGI it'd be fantastic.

Edit to add: Another thought on a remake. The old series never really came to a conclusion, it just ended without resolution. At least a tele-movie to tidy up the loose ends would be nice (a la Farscape)
