Bradley Wiggins won Britain's second gold on the cycling track with victory over Brad McGee of Australia in the final of the individual pursuit.
The Londoner, who set a new Olympic record in qualifying, proved too quick for his former Francaise des Jeux team-mate.
McGee, who pulled out of the Tour de France with a back and hip injury, beat Wiggins in the final of the event at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Former world champion and three-time Tour de France stage winner Chris Boardman, who has been working with Wiggins in his preparation for the Games
said: "Everything he's done in the last few months has paid off."
