Former junior middleweight champion Yory Boy Campas stopped Anthony Shuler at 1:16 of the first round to win the vacant International Boxing Association title Saturday night.

The victory was the second for Campas since being stopped by Oscar De La Hoya in the seventh round of a WBC 154-pound title match on May 3, 2003.

After that, Campas (82-6, 69 knockouts) caught a virus from a mosquito bite, lost strength and weight and spent 10 months outside the ring.

His first bout back, also at Phoenix's Dodge Theater, he escaped with a split decision over relatively unknown Dumont Welliver.

But Campas was the quick, relentless puncher of old against Shuler.

He knocked down Shuler (15-3-1) with two left hands in the first minute.

The Indianapolis fighter barely had time to recover when Campas swarmed in, rocking him with a right before dropping Shuler for the count with another left hook.
