WASHINGTON - NASA hosts a news briefing at 1 p.m. EST, Wednesday, Dec. 6, to present new science results from the Mars Global Surveyor. The briefing will take place in the NASA Headquarters auditorium located at 300 E Street, S.W. in Washington and carried live on NASA Television and www.nasa.gov.

I thought this probe was lost and couldn't be found even not by the MRO and the combined efford of the science community:S
makes me wonder what it found and why its currently lost.
is there a specific reason it lost now? did the probe find something solid on lost civillisations on mars?

Data downloads have been coming in faster than they can be analised. Perhaps they are just catchiing up and wish to share the latest information. if you haven't seen them by now, then you should go check out the hiRes images that were just released. They are quite spectacular.

Wow, sounds like maybe confirmation of water on Mars.

"It's going to be the most significant science results that we've had from the rovers, and it's bearing on their primary mission," NASA spokesperson Don Savage told SPACE.com . That mission is to find signs of water that might support life.

Can't wait

NASA will hold a press conference Tuesday to announce "significant findings" about water on Mars based on evidence from its Opportunity Mars rover.

Not much info, so far , that I can find.

***As a buddy just informed me the above article is a few years old

Wishfull thinking has clouded my head, I guess. Sorry for the poor research!!

I will now line up for the gauntlet of Smack the Dufus

Thanks , space'

Keep an eye out for NASA’s new Mars announcement. The buzz here in Houston at a Space Exploration conference is that years of photo snaps by the recently-lost Mars Global Surveyor has picked up a gullywasher of a finding.

more info there is a buzz in houston so must be major news

Man,

Where are the good press leaks when you need them?

I have a feeling it will go something like this.

"Mars had liquid water much more recently than previously thought..Maybe as recent as 10 million years ago"

They will then go on to say something like..

"even now, some subsurface water is released into the atmosphere" In the form of geysers near the poles"

But, I could be wrong..

Ok, so what did they find? Today is Tuesday.

Whatever it is it wont be physical evidence of prior visitors, or anything like that. Probably more microbes or something we wouldnt care about.

I wonder if R C Hoagland will spill the beans on the coast to coast show.

Outer space belongs to him.
He'd know.

Hi DG,

The conference is Wednesday the 6th.
I think there was some cornfusion about the date..
But it's tomorrow..I'm still scanning the wires to see what I can find beforehand.
If I do..I'll post it!

Ok, I see I'm gonna be forced to get back in line.

To reiterate, my above post about the Tuesday announcement, was mistakenly taken

from a 2 year old report. (although funny how it mirrors current events)

The actual meeting is scheduled for today (Wed) the the 6th. at 1pm

Sorry again for the confusion.

Is it just me or does it seem like a freaky coincidence that the MGS went missing in the last few weeks and just now is providing us with some ground-breaking information? Could the two possibly be related? Its kind of like a parting gift from the MGS

Maybe it flew over an alien civilization and was shot down, but managed to broadcast the data back to earth just in time

I can't wait for the announcement and hope its at least water related, if not based around life on mars.

I figured he'd be all over that one.

I thought they had already found water there.
