I'm from Nicaragua and it was at civil war for about 20 years. It ended when I was born 1989. The communist group is named the Sandinista they tried to bring in communism to my country. My mother and father left their home cause of this.

The election result in my country

Now the election for the Presidency has started and the the communist group has won the election there. The new president name is Daniel Ortega. My mom she scared as # and my aunt already got tickets to get my cousin out of my country.

This smiling man is Daniel Ortega. I hate this man guts my whole family is torn by "the fight for freedom" only to find out that it was we not going to have a word in the process. So had a other civil war.

This whole process ends on the day my grandma die and when I was born. Now after all the dead and all the pain people still want this man who part of a party that was COMMUNIST!!!!!

I just hope they aren't lie about how they change.

Maybe not in your books. But you arent Nicaraguan. Obviously, there are a number of people there who highly disagree.

We have seen over and over again that communist countries are just as wicked and inhumane as fascist ones.

Perhaps, but I dont automatically assume "bad" when ever I hear the words Communism or Socialism. President Reagan's stellar example of Capitalism's respect for sovereignty, rule of law and democracy in funding terrorist organisations to kill and intimidate Nicaraguans into shunning Ortega is enough for me to conclude that Ortega is in Nicaragua's best interest. Since the converse can be said for the will of the United States in such matters, both historically and contemporarily.

Also remember that this man was voted into office. That automatically shows that he is popular in Nicaragua and probably always was. While the OP authour's family might not like Ortega, that's not to be assumed for the bulk of Nicaraguans.

I wish people like you could change places with people like subz.

People like subz probably some rich liberal living high on Capitalism has no idea what hell people who actually have to live under communism go through.

Nicaraguans had Reagan to help them last time, now they are screwed, no one can save them from themselves.

Oh gimme a break, Sleeper. I lived 3 years in a spanish village that was run by a communist mayor. They liked the color of my money as much as anyone's, believe me.

And guess what, the communist party is just as legal in the US as any of them. Get scared if they ever gain in numbers and become a majority. But stay ever viligent, the boogeyman's out there.

After what happened there in the 80's, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Ortega allies his govt with Cuba and Venezuela. And get the hell out of CAFTA, the capitalists are trying to screw them again.

Living in a small village where chickens and other wildlife roams free in your house the political flavor has little effect on daily life.

When a whole country becomes communist, then everyone will have to get use to living like peasants. If that’s your cup of tea so be it---I’ll take my Capitalism straight up thank you.

The fact is most who propose leftwing austerity on others are rich left-wingers living in the lap of Capitalist luxury. I say if you want it for others you should live in it yourself without the lifeline of being able to leave it when ever you want, as apparently you were.

Look Sleeper, you know and I know this is really about investors exploiting their resources, as a good little capitalist would.

Why Nicarauga?

Hugo knows that, Fidel knows that, and Daniel's been very well aware for the better of the past 20 years.

My hat is off to the ones out their protecting the rights of the citizens, rich or poor, but in the best interests of the homeland they love. Kinda like Vlad too.

Now, if Ortega had quit politics to get a little of the action for himself, would you hold that against him?

That’s the communist mantra to get the people to sell their souls to the left.

These guys know how to steal resources rather than create them. They all live luxurious lives off the backs of their people, while spouting lies about Capitalism. they are running the capitalist out of their countries to eliminate competition for themselves and their crony companies.

They protect the people like they protect their livestock. Who else is going to take care of them and their palaces?

Communist Ortega quit politics and work for a living? Now that’s a laugh!

Not true.

There are other people who think along thew same lines as President Reagan and Lt.Col. Oliver North.

It just so happens that we're living in an age where the left and those who support them are crying and whining louder than ever.

I believe that a large number of the American people are suffering from a John Kerry disease known as wishy-washy, flip-floppisitis.

Do you mean like Bob Gates? Our new Secretary of Defense nominee?

In early 1987 he was nominated to become the Director of Central Intelligence in early 1987, but withdrew after it became clear that the Senate would reject the nomination because of controversy about his role in the Iran-Contra affair.

Please take note, ladies and gentlemen. This might be a question on the Senate Confirmation test.

The questions never stop...

I like my country and never said I didnt like capitalism. Apparently, unlike some, I see no problem with finding capitalism and communism acceptable. Both forms of government are viable if they are run correctly. Sadly, neither communism or capitalism is run correctly in any country I know of.

For starters if you think the United States or Britain or Australia (where I live) is capitalist then you are sadly mistaken. We all have central banks that manipulate and interefere with our economies to such an extent that we effectively have centrally controlled economies just like those dastardly communists do. Just because it's some fatcat banker who's pulling the strings instead of some corrupt fatcat politician makes no odds.

I would be happy with the capitalism in the West if it were completely laissez-faire, and not the bastardized form that it actually is.

Which brings us to Communism, or more aptly Socialism. Since communism has never been acheived and socialism is the path to communism. Quite a few rich countries in Western Europe are out-and-out socialist (Spain etc) and most of them have major socialist leanings and tennets employed in their forms of government (Scandinavia etc). There are also very, very poor and destitute socialist countries such as Cuba. But does that make socialism instantly evil? What about the destitute capitalist countries that make up most of Africa? Does the same instantly apply to capitalism?

Let's try not to paint with broad brushes, you can never paint a master piece that way. You also miss out all the fiddly bits in the corners

"Help them"? That's an interesting way to put it. As I recall the US-funded and backed Contras were responsible for some 60,000 deaths.

Contra Attrocities

The Nicaragua conflict claimed an estimated 60,000 lives. The Contras were frequently accused of being responsible for multiple political assassinations, kidnappings, and the widespread use of torture. They were opposed by many Nicaraguans as well as foreign human rights organizations who viewed their tactics, which included the targeting of civilians, as brutal and indiscriminate.

The Contras were accused of blowing up bridges, civilian power plants and schools, burning fields of crops and attacked hospitals. Their tactics were said to include rape, kidnappings of peasants and civilians, ambushes and massacres against small rural communities, farms, co-operatives, schools and health clinics. Contra raids caused extensive damage to crop fields, grain silos, irrigation projects, farm houses and machinery. Numerous state farms and co-operatives were incapacitated; other farms still intact were abandoned because of the danger. Witness For Peace, an American Protestant watchdog body, collected a list of Contra atrocities in one year, which included murder, the rape of two girls in their homes, torture of men, maiming of children, cutting off arms, cutting out tongues, gouging out eyes, castration, bayoneting pregnant women in the stomach, amputating the genitals of people of both sexes, gouging out eyes, scraping the skin off the face, pouring acid on the face, breaking the toes and fingers of an 18 year old boy, and summary executions.

One survivor of a Contra raid in Jinotega province, which borders Honduras, reported: "Rosa had her breasts cut off. Then they cut into her chest and took out her heart. The men had their arms broken, their testicles cut off and their eyes poked out. They were killed by slitting their throats and pulling the tongue out through the slit."[1] The human rights organisation Americas watch, concluded that "the Contras systematically engage in violent abuses…. so prevalent that these may be said to be their principle means of waging war."

Wow with help like that, who needs enemies?! Saying that President Reagan "helped" Nicaraguans is akin to saying Osama Bin Laden helped New Yorkers.

I live in the U.S. now, and from what I read there no sign of fraud.

subz you made very valid points. But the Sandinista did the some of those things. Most of my family is dead cause of this. If you lived with my mom and see how my family is well you change your mind.

I want to believe Daniel Ortega cause if he does Nicaragua will be up in arms, and I just want to move on. You know no more war.

OH dgtempe thank for the good luck.

My deepest sympathies El Che. My posts are less endorsements of Ortega than they are swipes at Reagan and those who automatically poo-poo communism with no idea what our capitalist systems are and what our leaders have done.

Reagan was effective at liberating millions of people from left-wing tyrants that is why he is hated so bad by the left.

Leftwing regimes have killed millions of people in Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, and in Nicaragua, not to mention hundreds of other countries throughout the world---but I guess that’s ok with you?

Do you live on Mars? No one ever evicts a Communist leader here on planet earth. They may vote them in but they are not voting them out. Socialist can be voted out but not communist leaders without backup from the outside.
