TH SECRET WEB; I'll be very interested and glad if you send me some of your music (if this is what you do) specially if you are inspired by Syd Barrett .
i'll be curious to find out how he can inspire people in music.
for myself he inspired me (like all of us , i think) in viewing the world from another side (a deeper side)

tell me about your music if you like and maybe i'll be one of your fans...

SYD,
YOUR ECHOES WILL ALWAYS COME AND GO IN OUR EARS, HEARTS AND SOULS

This is a conspiracy theory board afterall so I thought I'd inject an actual hint of conspiracy theory into this news item.

Is there a chance this death might be in retaliation for ex-Pink Floyd frontman, Roger Waters's, recent activity in Israel a fortnight ago?

Roger Waters definately got some unwanted attention with The Final Cut, if any of you hadn't listened to it, there's some really good stuff in there and was probably the most profound Anti-War message since John Lennon. The Man has Cajones.

and still the dark stain spreads between
his shoulder blades
a mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves
and when the fight was over
we spent what they had made
but in the bottom of our hearts
we felt the final cut...

and what's more no-one ever disappears
you never hear their standard issue kicking in your door
you can relax on both sides of the tracks
and maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
and everyone has recourse to the law
and no-one kills the children anymore
and no-one kills the children anymore

Waters left the Band Just after that and you will notice the conspicuous lack of The Final Cut from the Box Sets and Compilation Albums.

Goodbye Syd Barrett! Pink Floyd kinda changed the world.
David Gilmour once recalled: "He took drugs by the shovelful."

Send me a U2U and I'll try and find some mp3 version of my stuff. It was Syd Barrett who made me realise that there is no box to think outside of. Plus the fact that Syd's writing and music still defies pigeon holing is something that really inspired me to write what was in my heart and not just what fit into a pigeon hole of a certain type of music.

Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they'll like this song?
Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?

Mother, should I run for president?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Or is it just a waste of time?

it must have been a rough 30 years for SYD

I've always felt roger wrote this for syd

Wish You Were Here Lyrics

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Wow,I can't believe this.Last night before going to bed I had the urge to watch the DVD
"The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story",and for the first time in a long time, listened to my Syd Barrett solo albums before finally going to sleep. Now I wake up this morning, come on ATS,and hear this.Cruel Irony!

Something they said on that DVD about Syd always stuck with me.They said the reason he felt compelled to stay in bed for days, without going out was that he felt while he was there his options, and possibilities were limitless. He felt that the moment he stepped out,and made up his mind then he was fixed to just that one path only.He understood something very profound about the human mind, and the life in general.I feel that he lived his life the way he would have wanted, and expanded his consciousness as far as any being ever could have.

RIP Syd,your fellow psychonauts will miss you.

i guess what had happened to syd during his turbulent years touring with pink floyd, coping with all that pressure, all those excessive fames and fortunes, living it up to others expectations.. have brought him to realise, that he needs to abandon it all.

i mean, its like.. how frodo baggins carrying the burden of the ring and the troubles he had gone thru to detach himself from the curse of that ring during the final scenes..

well, syd barrett did throw away his 'ring' and lived in seclusion which to me doesn't necesarily mean he wasted his life.. he was a free man indeed, i thought he might be contented with this period of his life, the peaceful kind of life..

every other human beings have their own 'ring' that needs to be disposed of.. i for one think that a lot of people out there including myself can really learn alot from this great man..

goodbye blue sky.. goodbye cruel world
for green is the colour obscured by clouds
a pillow of wind echoes on the run
and set the controls for the heart of the sun.

i wish u were here in the flesh you crazy diamond
the great gig in the sky, the hero's return..

hey you.. the show must go on
who needs information..
when you're in the grand vizier's garden party
flaming fearless, empty spaces
a saucerful of secrets and your possible pasts.

but not now john.. here's the final cut
so SHINE ON!!! and let there be more light..

Indeed this is a sad moment in the world of music with the passing of this legend.

Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

Farewell you Crazy Diamond!

in refereence to the whole final cut album by floyd, was that it was more of a rogers solo album that through contract had to be released as a floyd album. every member of the band prefered it to be a waters album, hence it is not viewed as a full out floyd album. i think through all the acid and even before, syd had a special out-look on life and had something of a childish innocence to him. too bad mental health and drug problems forever sealed him off from the rest of the world, truley an enigma.

Pink Floyd has some rteally deep lyrics. They really should get together again. If only Gilmour and Waters could put aside their feud.

i really wish they would get back together too. pink floyd has always been a very anti-war band, something that i really think we need in this day and age. rodger waters lost his father in ww2 before he was born, and in theyre songs they they talk about the evils of war and also in the bands movie "the wall" perhaps the band will reform and go on tour in tribute to syd?

Nope. David Gilmour and Roger Waters have some sort of feud, which led to the desitegtation of Pink Floyd. What a shame. Such wonderful men separeated by hate.

The cool thing is that, even though Syd stopped coming, the rest of the band kept him on the Pink Floyd payroll, so he got royalties for Pink Floyd till he died, which is nice of them.

well it was HIS band, without syd, there'd be no floyd, just three more architects and one session musician. i dunno though, i could see this as a spark that may reform the band. just a feeling, that's all.

I think, out of respect for Syd Barrett, we should do what I have done. Change your avatar, background, title, or something in your siggy, to commemerate Syd, or Pink Floyd on their loss.

Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun

Syd Barrett was an icon for crazy musicians (but I repeat myself) everywhere.

Goodbye Syd. I know which one's Pink.

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
