"Present Tense" by Pearl Jam

do you see the way that tree bends?
does it inspire?
leaning out to catch the sun's rays
a lesson to be applied

are you getting something out of this
all encompassing trip?

you can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense
to live in the present tense

have you ideas on how this life ends?
checked your hands and studied the lines
have you the belief that the road ahead ascends off into the light?
seems that needlessly it's getting harder
to find an approach and a way to live
are we getting something out of this
all-encompassing trip?

you can spend your time alone redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who cannot forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense
to live in the present tense

Man... I'm in a Widespread Panic mode these past few days. I just love how their lyrics are deep... Yet simple... Yet complex... Yet dark... and I dunno... I'm ramblin'

Here is the song "Time Waits."

Someday, there'll be nothing more to say
When life is seen as the dance of the seven veils
Well, each teaser reveals the beauty that was always already there
My body and soul and my car are not for sale

Some days are made of silent anticipation
Some days are just quarter-pumping, cheap peepshows
Oh, make-believe is all we have some of these days
Tie your money to your dog if you fear you might lose your way

The sun slips off each night to enjoy on the other side of town
Where barstools, and dreamers, and glasses all get refilled
Clocks and bar tabs are just numbers and memories fighting gravity against the wall
Steamboat fishlight dancin' on the windowsill

Oh, the jukebox man never hits us with the latest
No, he just brushes the the dust from the grooves of the songs we love
Wow a drunk couple sayin' "baby no,no you are no you are no you,you are the greatest"
Haloes and hornies, they're squared off toe to toe

Some day there'll be nothing more to say
As life is seen as the dance of the seven veils
Each teaser reveal the beauty that was always already there
My body and soul and my car are not for sale
My body and soul and my car are not for sale
My body and soul and my car are not for sale

Ok.. one more and I'll get off my Panic trip.... I SWEAR!!!!!

Here is "Longer Look."

he longer I look at you
The fairer you become
Every time I hear your voice
Sweeter is the song

Each glanced borrowed from your eyes
Deeper is the story
Wind burns your sleeping breath
And waters become one.

Longer I look at you
The fairer you become

Your hair brushed me lightly
Twice before we met
Years between familiar moments
Heaven since

Memories like photographs
Never knew were taken
Sun drenched snows from separate hills
Their waters become one

The longer I look at you
The fairer you become

The longer I look at you
The fairer

no worries- like 'em! I really like that last one.

I'm about to trip in Live now, but I'll keep them fairly short.

Yeah...I'm still in a mood...not so melancholy, but the whole...well you know the songs say it...by Live is a really great existential band to me and sound great too so...

with no more ado...

"All Over You" by Live

our love is like water
pinned down and abused for being strange
our love is no other
than me alone for me all day
our love is like water/angels pinned down and abused

all over you, all over me
the sun, the fields, the sky
I've often tried to hold
the sea the sun, the fields, the tide
pay me now,
lay me down

"Nobody Knows" by Live

I was on a street with a common name
I prayed for love
yeah I even begged
I had a vision of you
that carried me through

now it's just magic worlds
in a shaman's dream
I fear no man
I fear no pain

I had a vision of you
that carried me through

and nobody really knows what I would do for you
nobody really knows how much I love you
nobody really knows
nobody knows
nobody knows
nobody knows

I cleared my mind
and I turned around
grateful to the one
who would lay me down

I was silent in love
pouring down from above
like so much rain it fell
and pierced my brain
the trees all alive with their colors
like the dreams of man

I had a vision of you
that carried me through

and nobody really knows what I would do for you now
and nobody knows how much I love you, baby
nobody really knows
nobody knows
nobody knows
nobody knows

from "Drugged and Driving" by Dayglo Abortions

It was a quarter to twelve and we were rocking
I put my money on the bar, I heard the devil knocking
We played some drinking games while the band was thrashing
And a fight broke out so we gave the place a trashing
When the cops showed up I had to eat all my drugs
A couple of the guys got the kiss their billy clubs
The rest of us got out through the basement door
I ran to the back and I dove into my car

We were drugged
Drugged and driving

We got away clean but I was feeling kind of strange
I just ate 25 speeders and I could feel the adrenaline
pumping through my veins
like a burning fire straight to my brain

aaahhhhh

I feel better already

I do love the begining half of that song, but it does downhill after that for the second half IMHO

but it's enough to make me feel more light-hearted today.

Wow man... you snapped out of it pretty quick.

Gotta love that acoustic guitar in "Longer Look." Wish I could play a damn guitar. If you get me drunk enough I play the bongos like a mad man.

Notice I didn't say....... Good.

Ok think2much... That last song reminded me of something... The lyrics at least cause I don't know the tune. I know you know that you should know who sings this tune.

Well, I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playing with a can that he was kicking.
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone frying chicken.
And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost
Somewhere, somehow along the way.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughing little girl that he was swinging.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singing.
Then I headed down the street,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing,
And it echoed through the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

yeah ... say that last line again, 3X fast...and after a few beers/BCBud

Oh wait...maybe thats the state you're already in!

My answer would be: Well, I think you think I think2much to think I could know that I know that I should know what I think I don't know which is who sings that tune.

I can promise you one thing...it's likely closer to Hank William's Sr than a Dayglo Abortions tune!

am I even close in guessing the time/sound genre? I don't know if I've heard it...seems familiar...but after awhile...don't they all?

oh and LostSailor- anyone can learn to play guitar...maybe not well...but play
Seriously, you should pick it up

I do not play well, but I enjoy it-and I'm getting better and that is what counts for me...I play for myself and I've taught myself, but sometimes wish I had someone to teach me. When I was younger I hung out with alot of musicians-local people, small bands on tour and even found myself backstage at some huge names...if onyl I played back then...I could've jammed, picked up some pointers etc...but I was too shy/insecure-nobody knew it back then because I was a partier in a partying music scene crowd, but I envied those that could play and didn't dare try in front of them

hell 8 months at sea...I'd pick up a guitar-and have someone show you a few basic chords, with some practice what seems awkward at first, your fingers just soon fall right into place of their own accord almost.

now...on to my next lyric snippet

from "She Talks to Angels" by The Black Crowes

She never mentions the word addiction
In certain company
Yes, she’ll tell you she’s an orphan
After you meet her family

She paints her eyes as black as night, now
Pulls those shades down tight
Yeah, she gives a smile when the pain comes,
The pain’s gonna make everything alright

Says she talks to angels,
They call her out by her name
She talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name

She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes, the hair is from a little boy
And the cross is someone she has not met, not yet

Says she talks to angels,
Says they all know her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name

She don’t know no lover,
None that I ever seen
Yes, to her that ain’t nothing
But to me, yeah me,
It means everything

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying the stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying the stairway to heaven.

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she's buying the stairway to heaven.

I loved Zeppelin as kid, but burned out on them because I listened to them too much...worshipped Page etc...still love them-occassionally now-classics.

OK, here is a long excerpt from "Civil War" by Guns and Roses I really love this song:

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

(Snip)

I don't need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?
