Yesterday onthe news there was a young girl that bought a ''pop lollie'' (like a big ball of gum)and before she could put it in her mouth, it expoded and hit her on her face and arm causing 'burns' the lollie was found further down quite away from her..

The lollie was apparently bubbling and exploded....the manufactures of the lollie said it has never happpened before and it may have been tampered with...

I cannot find the article to the story, but it happened in the U.S.A.....
(saw the story on Australian tv )

holy cow! that's some weird stuff! and I haven't heard that either. I can't think of anything that would be like a pop lollie in the US. maybe one of those monster gumballs. that might be it. although I have NO idea how one would explode!

Gobstopper, all day sucker, lolli-POP or a candy-coated bubble gum?

I don't mind the exploding candy like on the outside of the seminal and historical Candy Warhol Magnum ice cream, but I would not appreciate getting caught up in a major candy terrorist attack.

This is why intelligent societies don't call soft drinks or sweets anything like "pop".

Quote from article
She put into the freezer, took it out and put in the sun.

The lolipop just did not explode for no apparent reason. The little girl froze it and then put in the sun. Sounds like the result of some unequal heating effects causing the lolipop to fracture.

NC

Check the pirate thread to make sure you yourself are not under the keel as we speak!

US residents

This is my point. Where else in the world will you find the idiomatic expression for this candy to be a "jawbreaker"? Violence is rife in the most innocent of sweet things.

Insite,

yeah, I wonder what the heck they were doing with this.

funny but no word of a lawsuit...yet?

they could get a fortune for this,

bet the phone is ringing off the hook with personal injury and product safety lawyers calling for a shot at it.

That's about all I can say....

Wow, that's pretty weird...I can see the fracturing, and possible bursting, but what caused the burns? Should be interesting to see what they determine in the lab....
