Scientists Confirm E.Coli in NO Waters.

At 12:25am PST Fox News announced Scientists have confirmed the presence of E-Coli Bacteria in and around the water of New Orleans.
EPA has advised people to avoid contact.

Looks like this disaster is not getting better, not right now anyways.

At anyrate, clean water and good handwashing are your best defence. You have the same risk in any restaurant who's employee's are not dilligent with thier hand washing.

I don't see this as surprising. I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in SE Michigan, beach closures due to high e.coli rates is common. Especially during periods of heavy and frequent rains.

e.coli is the least of their worries, I would think.
Cholera and West Nile would be a bigger worry, I wuold think.

The HIV virus does not survive long enough outside of the body for it to be transmitted through the environment. The only known way of contracting the disease is through direct transfer of bodily fluids as it does not deal well with changes in oxygen levels and temperature.

Where There's Sewage, There's E. Coli

E. Coli is a digestive bacterium that is found in all feces left by warm-blooded animals, including humans.

Finding it in a place where the sewers are under several feet of water is hardly surprising.

What would be bizarre is if they didn't find E. Coli in the water.
