BBC: Several killed in Egyptian blasts

At least 20 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a string of explosions in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, police said.

Witnesses said a four-star hotel was heavily damaged in another explosion in the nearby Naama Bay area.

Al-Qaeda linked suicide car bombers unleashed a trail of carnage in Egypt's tourist-packed Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing at least 88 people, including foreign tourists.

The Al-Qaeda Organisation in the Levant and Egypt said it carried out the multiple bombings as a "response against the global evil powers which are spilling the blood of Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Chechnya."

Egyptian Toll Hits 88; Mubarak Vows Hunt (AP)

Egypt's president vowed Saturday to hunt down terrorists who unleashed a rapid series of car bombs and another blast in this Egyptian Red Sea resort, devastating a luxury hotel and a coffee shop and killing at least 88 people in the nation's deadliest terror attack.

The attacks appeared well-coordinated. Two massive car bombs, possibly detonated by suicide attackers, went off simultaneously at 1:15 a.m. about two miles apart.

One car was packed with 660 pounds of explosives and slammed into the reception of the Ghazala Gardens in Sharm's Naama Bay, the main strip of hotels, officials said. The second bomb weighed about 440 pounds and exploded in a nearby area called the Old Market, frequented mainly by Egyptians working in the town's resorts.

A third bomb, believed hidden in a sack, detonated about the same time near a beachside walkway where tourists often stroll at night.

Haaretz.com: Extremist Egyptian analyst blames Israel for Sinai terror attacks

Less than 24 hours after terrorists killed at least 88 people in attacks on the Sinai resort town of Sharm el- Sheikh, Egyptian sources claimed that Israel was responsible for the deadly bombings.

Egyptian media analysts, sources in Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and Egyptian parliamentarian Ala Hasnin, in an interview with the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television network, all suggested Israel was responsible for the attacks.

Following the bombings, rumors spread across Egypt indicating that the bomb-laden cars used to attack the Sinai resorts sported Israeli license plates.

Egyptian security sources said at least one car that blew up on Saturday had special plates indicating it had crossed over from Israel at the Taba border terminal on the Sinai Peninsula.

The accusations that Israel was responsible for the deadly attacks were made despite a claim of responsibility by a group citing ties to Al-Qaida, according to a statement posted on an Islamic Web site.

The group, calling itself the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, al-Qaida, in Syria and Egypt, said that its "holy warriors targeted the Ghazala Gardens hotel and the Old Market in Sharm el-Sheikh."

The Washington Times: Hamas denounces Egypt explosions

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, Saturday denounced the explosions in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh resort as harming the region's interests.

Hamas said in a statement in Gaza the three blasts in the busy Red Sea resort "damages the security and stability of our countries and harms our national and Islamic interests and causes, especially the Palestinian cause."

Egypt sees no evidence so far of Al-Qaeda hand in resort attacks: PM (AFP)

Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif said there was no evidence so far linking the Al-Qaeda terror network to the recent deadly bombings at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

"Egypt has been the subject of a lot of terrorist acts. And they haven't been related to Al-Qaeda in any way in the past. So it would be a new thing if we see Al-Qaeda working in Egypt," Nazif told CNN.

Nazif also rejected a Washington Times editorial that said there was a "dangerous al Qaeda network in the Sinai."

"There is, so far, no evidence whatsoever of Al-Qaeda involvement" in the July 23 Sharm el-Sheikh attacks that left 67 dead and in another bombing in October in Taba, further north on the Sinai coast
