NEWS: Poll: Half of Americans now say Bush misled the country

The only thing that I can deduce from the information that fifty percent of the US population feels mislead about Iraq is that fifty percent of the population is clueless. I have been listening to Bush ever since 9/11 and I know that most of the world was convinced that Saddam had WMDs, including virtually every Democrat in Congress. I also remember that Bush said in the next State of the Union speech that we did not have the luxury of finding out about a rogue nation's WMDs when one went off in the middle of Manhattan.

Yeah. We could have continued to play hide and seek with Saddam using UN inspectors. An ounce of honor on the part of Saddam could have saved a lot of lives on both sides. The man to blame is not the man in the White House. The man to blame is the bearded fellow found in a hole in the ground in Tikrit.

The Russians knew that Saddam had WMD stuff.

The French knew.

The Germans knew.

The British knew.

The Saudis knew.

The Iranians knew.

Heck, even the Chinese and Pakistani knew.

Then, finally, after 12 years, the UN said it differently.

Then the Americans aren't certain but went to war on the pretext.

So, screw the poll. What else is new? Syria didn't have Saddam's WMD at all?

Somehow, I have a nagging little thing in the back of my head that I will be saying, "I told you so" once a part of Saddam's WMD has been used to kill thousands of people in the near future and we will find out where did that came from?!

I don't know about the democrats in Congress, Grady, but its a fact that most of the world DID NOT believe that Saddam had WMD, and that there was NO JUSTIFICATION for invading Iraq - at least not at that time. Some Americans are just waking up to that fact now.

I personally always knew it was about getting a foothold in the middle east - and the prize they have their eyes on is IRAN.

Sarcasm aside, when does conspiracy theory become conspiracy fact? Seems to be the case that lying about Iraq's WMD is a fact at this point. Only now are most waking up to it.

Right on all counts, AlwaysLearning. It’s just too bad so many lives must be lost before the mental fog begins to clear.

I’m not saying that Sadam Hussein is a good guy. He’s not. But then, neither is George Dubya & Co. How one judges the 100,000 plus INNOCENT Iraqi lives lost as the result of the mindless occupation of that country against the hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost under the Hussein regime is a totally subjective matter. It just depends on who's side you're on. It’s not that great of a stretch to envision George Dubya one day in a cell alongside Sadam, both facing charges of crimes against humanity. Aside from the US, still shaken over 9/11 and, therefore, easily pliable at the time, most of the rest of humanity was appalled by America’s actions when we invaded Iraq. Had it not been for 9/11, which Sadam had nothing to do with, the US may not have been so easily convinced, either.

IMHO, George Dubya had a personal score to settle (Sadam attempted to have George Sr assasinated) and he took full advantage of the fear felt by most Americans after 9/11 to make his move. And if there is any truth at all to this, then if George Dubya is escorted out of office in handcuffs, it will be no less than he deserves.

He lied to us in the fashion that we've been lied to by all of our politicians... I for one never believed that Iraq had nuclear weapons (I'd probably be waist deep in radioactive sewage if Iraq ever got there hands on anything remotely nuclear). So I wasn't mislead. Now... I think that at least half the country was mislead by the ever so frequent declarations that Iraq had nukes, but I also think that was their own fault for believing it.

I mean the sheer amount of free information that existed on Iraq... or at least other countries' information on the country should have given the rest of us a clue.

After talking to many people daily that walk into my shop I find the general concensus across the board as follows

1, the new world order is here but meh who can change it now. Each person is just one person against the world thought
2, The American administration is unbelievable in their actions and the way they push their power for the "good of democracy"
3, Not much difference between that administrationa and the nazi's and citizens of Germany during world war 2
3, Not much difference between them and any prior regime with a propoganda machine to control the citizens thoughts
4, there is no such thing as democracy its all full of donkey poop.


And thats not done by any morgan gallop poll...although i did work for them for a while

No, he's holding his hand because that's an Arab custom- men walk together holding hands. Of course, when we visit Saudi Arabia and practise one of our customs, like praying to a 'christian' God, we get thrown in jail.

In a Gallup poll released THIS MORNING, more and more Americans are saying that they believe their government misled them into believing that Iraq has WMD prior to the invasion.

And the other half are ignoring the facts, as we never found WMDs, thus PROVING Bush's argument completely false, and thereby PROVING he misled the country. Now the issue is more did he INTENTIONALLY and KNOWINGLY do so, or was it simply bad intelligence. Personally, my money is on the former. It is a proven FACT that he misled us, and the world.

This is all very well and good, this 50% is it part of the 50.07% that voted for him?. With any luck it will lead to impeachment.

Thanks, Netbound. I for one and happy to see Americans waking up to facts most of the world has been aware of from the getgo.

BushCo. and Saddam are cut from the same cloth...the American government armed him, then used the excuse that he still had and acquired more weapons and that this was some kind of threat to the U.S. in order to go in in 2003. Remember the big hullabaloo finding the bodies of the Kurds he had killed at Halabja? Well, guess where he got the chemicals for that? The American government knew about it back then and as far as I know the idea of sanctions was proposed by ...can't remember his name now...but the idea was nixed by ReaganCo. because it was bad for business and for Saddam's war with Iran (ah, Iran...)! They fixed him in 91 because he invaded Kuwait - but apparently he had told them he was going in because Kuwait was slant-drilling into Iraq's oil supply. One of the main reasons for going after him is that he refused to nationalize the oil.... He was a good friend and business partner as long as he did America's bidding...but no longer when he stood up to them.

And since 2003 how many souls lost, Iraqi, American, British, etc...and how many will continue to be lost? And those who are lucky enough to return, but forever scarred - emotionally and physically (for every soldier killed 9 come back disabled!) And for what? To make BushCo. and corporations like Halliburton, KBR, investment groups like Carlyle etc. richer and more powerful than they already are (Cheney still receiving deferred payments from Halliburton, Lyn Cheney, his wife still on the board of directors for Lougheed Martin!!!) and for America to get gain ground in the middle east from which they will never leave. How many bases do they have there now? I laugh when I hear or see "insurgents" - they're a resistance for cripes sake! Right or wrong they're fighting so that the invaders get the hell out of their country.

No, WMD was the lie told to the people to get them on board with the invasion...and having the lie reported by Britain (uranium from Africa...) was deliberate to make it more credible. The so-called intelligence was fed to Britain by the CIA. Blair is right in there with BushCo., though he has been their puppet. I still remember him saying the invasion was only about WMD and not about regime change... yeah, right...

BushCo. has continued to cultivate a culture of fear started by previous governments. 9/11 the gift that keeps on giving. Keep the people feared up, dumbed down and driving their big a$s SUV's to the corner store must be their motto!

The world used to be much bigger, but now with the internet it is small - look here on ATS - people and opinions from all over. So now there is no excuse for not questionning everything that doesn't seem right... But too many people still like to stay in their dark little caves and safe little environments where they imagine that the things their governments do are for their own good. Wars happen and it doesn't matter what side wins because both sides lose - in deaths, destruction and debt. Its only the banks, the corporations and corrupt government officials that win. They go back and forth...someone leaves a high level government position and walks into a highpaying corporate job and vice versa. The two help each other - never forget it. When asked when was the best time to make money, the Baron von Rothschild said: When the blood runs in the streets."


All this leaves the poor schmuck taxpayer to foot the bills for generations to come.

Oh well, off my soap box for now... sorry for the rant...my chest feels lighter!

You know the old adage "one hand washes the other?" That's how close the saudi Royal family is with BushCo. Wonder what secrets men who hold hands like that have between them.

As for polls...there's always some truth to them...and in this particular instance howcome it didn't appear in the mainstream media? Somehow I don't think its because its not a credible poll.
