A little excitement tonight

I was sitting here watching TV about 9 PM and I started hearing what I thought was thunder in the distance but it wasn’t stopping for like 10 minutes.
Went outside and all the neighbors were out on the sidewalks wondering the same thing.

Turns out it was massive explosions from a fire at an industrial building about 3 miles away.

The explosions lasted at least an hour.

The news is saying it was nitrous oxide tanks blowing up.

Craziest thing I’ve ever experienced, nonstop news coverage here.

I’ve heard all kinds of conflicting reports as to what was blowing up but I am not sure they even know exactly what it was.

First heard it was a train derailment, tracks run real close to where it is.
Then heard fireworks and now the news said nitrous oxide tanks.

It was crazy man, never heard anything like that.
The house was shaking.

Thanks, yeah we are fine.

The building used to house a grocery store years ago but not sure what was there now.

I saw someone say it might have been a pot dispensary, but I really don’t know.

The entire area is big industrial buildings mixed with some smaller businesses.

I don’t smoke in the house, so I went outside for a smoke a little while ago and there is a faint odor in the air.
I am like 3 or 4 miles from there.

No, we moved away from the area a couple of years ago.
I do remember a lot of light industry in the area.

Sounds like a lot of dense energy was packed in to cause ongoing explosions for an hour. Maybe some big battery bank with all the individual cells popping off one after another? If there was a lot of small canisters of NO2? Does take a lot of heat to get them started, will go bang if hot enough.

Be careful if you’re close by.

I don't know your laws. In NY, dispensaries are closely regulated...as is everything in NY...weed only. In it's various forms.

However, CBD and Vape shops are on every corner. It is very out in the open. Weed. Pre rolls, whip cream canisters ( the ones mentioned above ). Most sell to anyone...even kids.

If you know the right people at those shops, mushrooms, acid, coke, meth, etc.

My bet is this place had a lab in the basement and effed up. My understanding of a meth lab fire is they burn at extreme temperatures...hence blowing the illegal nitrous tanks.

Pretty certain Hollywood made a documentary about that.

ETA: It is also not uncommon for these shops to literally make their own vapes. Again, screw up in the lab.

I wondered if you heard it too. At first, I thought it was fireworks. Then I saw the flashes in the sky, but knew it was not. It was pretty crazy. Heard the explosions from about 8:45 until 10:30.

Heard a firefighter and one individual hurt and hospitalized. This morning the air quality is a concern and unknown.

Oh yeah, it was crazy.
Everyone on my street was outside thinking it was the end of the world or something 🤣
A few older neighbors were really scared and we were trying to calm them down not even knowing what the hell was going on ourselves.

My wife is from that area...she was getting texts from friends still in the area last night about hearing the explosions.

Funny you mentioned fireworks. Wife used to work for a guy who had an office at that intersection. She told me he used to schedule fireworks displays.

What was also strange was she used to still hear from the guy...but he seems to have disappeared and stopped texting.
