The facility that you refer to is an underground natural gas storage facility operated by NW Natural Gas. There is a natural gas field at Mist that has been operated for about forty years. gas is taken out of the ground, the water vapor removed, some is stored and the rest is distributed by gas pipeline throughout the region. Chances are the gas in your stove came from this site.
