Multiple GOP lawmakers tell NPR that embattled New York Republican Rep. George Santos has voluntarily recused himself from serving on committees temporarily.

Santos made those comments during the GOP's weekly closed-door conference meeting Tuesday morning.

Santos noted his presence was a distraction, those in the meeting said. He did not answer questions from NPR as he left the meeting.

The GOP's Man of Many Names has "voluntarily" decided to step down from his committee assignments amid ever growing controversy.

While it's being framed that Santos came to this decision on his own, I think we can all agree this ultimately came from McCarthy. The question is what was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Did the countless lies finally become too much?

Is McCarthy aware of a story that's about to break?

Is this an attempt to stop the growing number of GOP Representatives that are turning against McCarthy for his attempt to keep certain Democrats off committees?

I have a feeling this isn't the end of this story.

That's certainly part of it.

I think he's being "shunned" by his fellow Republicans and finds it too embarrassing to face them on a daily basis. Republicans can tolerate a lot in their caucus--lying, cheating, and stealing to get elected, for example. The one thing they can't tolerate is a drag queen.

How about the fact that he cannot tell the truth, no matter how stupid the lie?

Good lord, we all know all politicians lie, but this guy wasn't even smart enough to come up with believable lies or lies that couldn't be fact checked in 2 minutes, by a middle school kid. (where did he go to high school?)

I would prefer, if I have to have a liar, they be semi intelligent.

He's a dishonest, lying piece of crap. As a conservative, it's super easy to say that.

How about the left try it - Adam Schiff anyone?

Anyone?

but he ran, wasn't hindered by his competition, and the voters didn't bother to check his story. Democrats didn't bother to check his story. His election proves voters can be rock stupid, which explains Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, AOC, and many others.

Catch me if you can - well they did and I am sure the people who voted him into office want him out. Nobody likes being made to look foolish.

AKA: "GO TEAM!!!".
Is your team actually better than the other?
Both create the problems WE have to endure.

Not gonna happen.

I like that you identify as a conservative instead of a republican.
I do the same.
It separates me from the "team mentality".

Yes, but I believe part of it is campaign finance.

He said he used a lot of his own money, but that’s coming into question.

Whether or not he had shady money as a private citizen rarely proves to be problematic with voters.

But campaign finance can quickly become criminal if he lied.

Lifelong independent - Fiscal conservative socially a bit less so. I vote policy and character not "team".

I don't know. That was over a week ago. There's been evidence of some fairly significant campaign finance crimes that have emerged since then.

Funny thing is if he just resigns, people will stop looking into him.

He’s opening himself up to legal trouble by sticking around.

There appears to be something fishy about the amount he claims to have funded to his own campaign. His team recently revised the amount he previously claims to have funded himself and have no indicated it didn’t come from him. The only way he stays out of legal trouble is if he proves it was a loan, which is doubtful given his rocky personal history, especially to the tunes of hundreds of thousands.

America has pretty loose campaign finance regulations, but the worst thing you could do is lie. If they wanted to hide the real source it must be bad.

All that said, this is speculation. He’s proven to be anything but predictable, and this could be chalked up as him being a dipsh** just as easily as I see it being blatantly illegal back room deals.

Most politicians are crooked. Get over it. Find something else. Like maybe UFO's? Just an idea... Why follow crooked people, and then gripe about them? Like a dog chasing its own tail.... Find something else. Like when the Levy breaks...
