The US cant fight Russia militarily so they are hoping that canceling would do it.

The story is speculative at best.

But if it rings true, it is Russia that is disconnecting itself.

They have to, this isn't the Cold War anymore where it's simple to prevent citizens for getting news from the West, now anyone with a cell can see what's happening in Ukraine. Putin's 80's playbook isn't going to work.

Not if elon has anything to do with it. Nor if they want to keep on using bit or other crypto to get around sanctions.

Musk said he was going to make sure starlink would fly over Ukraine so they could keep on putting stuff out on the web.
There are also reports russia could use bit coin to get around sanctions, along with other means.

Starlink over Ukraine, will probly have to fly over russia at some point, Hackers will find them.
Old farty might shut down private / individual use of the internet, but government use will continue and if it does hackers will figure a way to use it.

It's still going to be incredibly hard if not impossible for them to have a functioning country wide intranet. I know it's been done in other countries, but people are incredibly industrious. There are libraries in mincraft with banned literature for countries with strict information policies.

But this move kind of makes all western material forbidden fruit.

There's going to be a thriving black market of DVDs and micro SDs moving through soon.

why 3-11

has the cut-off date anything to do with the USA date of 9-11, just 6 months difference ?

is 3-11 meant to be the opposite of 9-11 ? Putin isn't mystic or is he ?

> the same, just not at all the same.

I think you're on to something.

The U.S. has no interest in fighting any war.

So cancelling russia instead.

Would you rather we kill 150m russians?

Seeing the same on my end.

Also seeing that we are much more prepared than anyone thought.

Those 250k are going as hard as they can at the worst possible targets, no holds barred, and so far have had VERY little success.

russia probably will have some success eventually, but so far russia has launched every single hacking missile in their silos, and every single one has been shot down.

It also going to be much more difficult for Putin and the FSB to prevent the dissemination of Western news and media. This will significantly contribute to Putin's eventual demise.

This ain't 1970. Russia is not a communist country, nor is it aggressively anti-Christian. It is actually capitalistic and atheistic. I'm not even sure it is anti-Western... more like it is anti-Western-corruption-messing-with-it.

What Russia does not have is a concern for the basic human rights of those in occupied countries. It's called "martial law" and occupying forces typically do not care about offending others.

Western society is about to be tested beyond anyones wildest dreams

That is very true. No one understands what war is, it seems.

But we will.

It also makes it much easier for Russia to indoctrinate their people and crack down on dissent.

True enough. Look at what we do to our own people. Do you really expect different from Russia?

The pro-Putin and intolerance for anything anti-putin regime is already bad. If the internet gets shut down, it's going to get really ugly.

So, let me get this straight... if Russian folks cannot access the Internet, everyone else is going to suddenly become "pro-Putin"?

Talk about proving a point! You're literally claiming that we are doing what you fear Russia will do!

I have yet to see a lot of "pro-Putin" sentiment. I see a lot of questions about the official narrative, a lot of folks trying to understand why Russia invaded Ukraine, and even some people trying to understand Russian strategy. I also see a lot of people claiming that anyone doing so is somehow "pro-Putin." That's 100% hogwash and full-on Nazi propaganda. You might as well go ahead and throw that hand in the air while proclaiming "Heil Biden!"

Do you want a world war? Because this is how you get a world war.

Anyone posting from Russia after the 11th we should all laser focus on as Russian shills and ATS should ban them for life if this really happens.

What?

Do you hear yourself? You want ATS to ban everyone from this culture because you don't like it? I don't like Biden's actions; shall we ban the USA?

You don't want to know what Putin is doing?

Has the whole world gone completely mad?

If ATS starts banning entire countries because it's the "in" thing to do, I won't be here either.

Attempts to regulating "the truth" is a funny thing.

When you have to hide something, it makes people question your motive, and what is hidden.

I have been checking into RT for years. I can read all stories, positions, ideologies, and opinions, doesn't bother me one bit, usually just strengthens the resolve in my own while finding understanding in others. But here we have access to most everything and people don't even bother. Only of it got banned would people start feeling the thirst for knowledge.

Leave it all out in the open and it's easier to control the narrative at the end of the day. Just call stuff fake news and let them read it. That's how it's done here lol.

They aren’t using American tactics, bombing them to rubble and then sending in the marines to mop up.

You are right.

I am overly emotional right now because I have someone very close to me attempting to flee the situation and get to safety. That person is having trouble getting out and getting an appointment with an embassy to get to safety in the US.

They're attempting to regulate everything. That may have worked better in the 1950's but is going to be near impossible now.

To remove internet access to the wider world is something that should not happen. The end result is an insulated country that only eats what its gov feeds it and thats not a diet any of us on the planet should be subjected too.

Which makes it even funnier that the Russians aren't getting anywhere. About the only thing they're good at is running out of fuel and killing civilians.

Perhaps they should russia to stop killing Ukrainians and go home then?

I am sorry to hear about your loved ones, I have a couple old contacts I'd be happy to call if they can do something specific to help them. As far as I know they don't really have any reach beyond far west Ukraine right now though, my guy in Kharkiv was killed by russians a few days ago.

Best advice I have is to avoid large traffic groups (russia is attacking these) and find a way to the western border. LOTS of Patriots are helping refugees in every possible way there, and much of Ukraine's remaining air defenses are there, specifically to protect those civilians, so russia hasn't attacked there too often, and have been quickly shot down when they do.
