This is one of those rare occasions when I muster the initiative to create a topic of discussion, because I just can't wrap my mind around the audacity of our industrial leadership.

An historical cultural fixture in the Rotterdam community that began in early 1800s as a swing bridge and was upgraded roughly 50 years later to a lift bridge. It was never the most useful of architecture but after the community repaired all the Nazi damage in the 1940s, the bridge eventually achieved Rijksmonument status in response to reconstruction plans that provoked backlash.

And now Bezos has ideas about how to approach the Dutch landmark, thanks to the inflated sense of entitlement that came with his superyacht.

From your link:

The AFP news agency quoted the mayor's office as saying the jobs created by the construction of the vessel prompted the plan, and pledged the bridge would be rebuilt in its current form.

"It's the only route to the sea," a mayoral spokesman added.

The sentiment was echoed by Rotterdam's local authority project leader Marcel Walravens, who said it would not be practical to finish the yacht's construction elsewhere.

Shouldn't these issues have been publicly addressed before construction of the yacht even began?

The US knows all about tearing down monuments.....

One doesn't easily tell Jeff to go Hef himself.

An outward display of the deeper issues at play. To note such trivia and move on would miss the point in my thinking.

Wonder who here on one hand sees the cold elite games that folk like Bezos are playing but somehow don't realize they have bought into his and his peer group's propaganda?

I think that I had read somewhere that they had dismantled it a couple of times in the past, but am not finding anything now to back that up. It would be hella hilarious if they refuse to make any accommodations for Bezos and he can't get his yacht to the ocean.

We'll create a device for that and sell it on Alibaba for fun.

Park trucks on it and protest until Bezos gets the point.

The world falls apart and he wants to OPENLY celebrate making billions out of the pandemic.

ENOUGH!

Read this article about a week or so ago, it didn't surprise me.. Money talks and BS walks.. In this case swims.. Now what were you saying? This tells you everything you need to know about the "elite" and it makes me sick to my soul but hey if I had the money for a boat like that? Screw it, I'd be more worried about underground bunkers but I'm sure he has a few...

That super yacht is big business, I've got nothing but respect for the Dutch and their abilities.

The bridge is just being moved temporarily, sure it's a vanity project but it's also a massive investment in a sector the Dutch are specialists in.
